My body is sore this morning. It’s because I had to bowl on Friday night. Now I can probably count on my two hands the number of times that I have bowled in my adult life and all have been the direct result of Honey saying “we need to do a family thing with Caregroup (our small group Bible Study), how about bowling?” And off we go. We had a good time , but I’m I’m pretty sure it was the company, not the actual game. There were all levels of skill there, so we weren’t feeling threatened or anything. My favorite moment was when The Ab-Cat threw her ball in the gutter, not in her lane, but in the Sharpe5’s lane next door! During the first game, the first game, Honey felt something ping in his back. That’s when I confided to him that I had already taken a back pill. I could feel it coming on. Everywhere. He jokingly said something about us being old, but I have got to tell you that I don’t think that was it. I just don’t do those kind of moves in my everyday life, you know? I don’t think I ever did.
Anyone who knows our family could tell you that we are not competitive , except for a little family card game called Peanuts. The closest thing we have ever been to organized sports (not including T-Ball, which everyone knows it not organized) was last winter when The Muggins was on the swim team at school. I have to admit , it was very exciting, especially when it turned out she was really good! We did not miss a one of those meets and even delayed our Easter vacation to have her compete in the finals!
Now I will let you all in on a little known fact. I was once in a bowling league. I know, I know, I have surprised all 5 of you. Well 4, because my Mom might actually remember that. I was in the 4th grade and my friend DawnSlater (don’t you always think of your childhood friends like that, first and last names together?) asked me to be on her league. She was a regular bowler. I don’t recall what my average was when I started, but I know I had worked hard to get to 72 when I finished. I don’t remember much about the actual bowling, but Dawn and I had a lot of fun and I spent the majority of the time stalking a boy named Tom , who much to my horror showed up attending my jr.high 3 years later. Aah, good times.

I De-Lurked! It was the first time I commented on a blog of someone that I don’t know. WHEW! I was as nervous as a long tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs. It was a comment on a post near and dear to my heart; not whining. I thought I would still be fairly anonymous cause it came up as my address name , not my real name, but then oops, there was my avatar. So I have officially outed myself. I think I am sweating. O.k. deep breath, it’s not so bad. Now you do it!

I don’t do too much with the computer. Now that Ab-Cat is taking on-line college courses, I get to do less. And I am usually O.K. with that. So long as I get to check my e-mail and play Penguin ( a ridiculously addicting little card game) during lunch , I am usually fine. Oh, and I have that little bitty problem with Jewel Quest. And Mrs. Schmenkman and I do chat frequently on the webcam, but that is usually very early in the morning , therefore it causes no problem for any of my crew. Who are not up early.
During the past year or so I had the First Born set me up a MySpace. Mainly so I could check out my childrens MySpace’s. I never really did much with it and probably have 4 comments , one from each of my children and one from Mrs. Schmenkman. I then discovered I could surf around and go to other peoples MySpace. And then I discovered that I can visit a COMPLETE STRANGERS site! Fancy that! Well, then , after Christmas I was a little bored and googled a topic I like and I discovered actual blogs devoted to such topics, and other topics! And then from those sites, you can leap to others that you might like even better! And so on and so on until I was checking some sites daily to be entertained by people that I would not be able to pick out of a line-up! I would read the posts and enjoy them thoroughly, but I never felt the need to comment. Never even considered doing so. That seemed weird. No one ever knew I was there. I had at one time mentioned this to my SIL and she told me there was a name for people like me; Lurkers. And that is totally what I am.
So now I have my own blog. And there is a feature that tells me how many hits there have been on the site each day. Today it said there were 68. Now, that cannot be the five people, that I know actually read the thing daily, checking over and over, breathlessly waiting for my next post! I believe I mentioned in a previous post that I need to check my site several times a day, just to see if there are any comments. And there usually aren’t many. Wouldn’t you know it? All Lurkers!

Yesterday I told you what I have been reading. Today the Ab-Cat picked up a book for me that was on hold at the library. It’s called “Wonderful Tonight” and it is an autobiography by Patti Boyd, who was married to both George Harrison and Eric Clapton. As a former Beatlemaniac, I am interested in what she has to say. Tell me what you are reading. And is it good ?

I am thinking that I must have stated in the “About Capri Kel” column that I love to read. At certain times during the year I am able to read more than others. This is the time of year that I read the least. Probably because BSF (the Bible Study) is in full swing and that requires some time, and another factor could be because there is usually a lot of television going on . Of course, this year , the writers strike has thrown off our groove. For some reason though, I have still not read much. Nothing captured my attention.
So I was very excited to receive this as a Christmas present from my friend the Saint (aka Lucy’s Mama). She had told me about it in November and it reminded me of a conversation I had with the mother of one of Ab-Cats many roommates when she was in the hospital this summer. She was also a hairdresser and commented on Ab’s beautiful curls. Now I don’t know how she could have known too much about what her hair looked like , cause it was in two Pippi Longstocking braids for the entire two weeks we were there, but she proceeded to call her a “Curly Girl ” and told her to stop washing her hair with shampoo. I was completely not buying a word she said. Fast forward several months and here is Saint talking about the exact same thing! But she explained it better. And in more detail. And it sounded more interesting. It didn’t make me scratch my head.
It is an unusual concept. But upon reading it, I understand where she is coming from and I have talked the Ab-Cat into into giving it a whirl. And let me tell you, talking that girl into anything concerning her hair is a major accomplishment. The author really encourages her readers to accept their curls (I am always telling her to make friends with her hair!) and find out how to make them look the best that they can. With lots of conditioning. And no shampoo. And NEVER brushing. She also has a good idea to cut the curls at the top of each “C” . The author has seriously embraced her inner Curly Girl. I’ll let you know how this works out. I know you can hardly wait. Thanks Saint, it gave me a lot to think about!

I believe I may have mentioned that the Muggins likes to change her hair. Often. She didn’t make it a week before she informed me she thought hi-lights would look cute. And since we were doing that , could we just do the underneath part Onyx? And then when she was tired of the hi-lights, she had the thought to color the top Bonfire, so it was really a stepping stone to that hair-do. Oke-Doke. I had already been down in the salon once that morning taking care of my (as The Ab-Cat lovingly calls it) Silver Lining .
She is a Patient Girl, I’ll give her that. It took the bleach forever to come up, possibly due to previous colors, you think??? After a couple little glitches, the finished result was darling.

It took so long I finally sat her under the dryer.

I actually prefer the highlights.

This is the only way I have let her have the black hair. It doesn’t look Goth at all. That would not be the look we want on our Q. Mouse!

Off to a Chinese New Years party and shopping with friends. She told me later that they went to Value World and she got a skirt for $2.40. I nodded and aaahed with respect. That apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree.

We have a fairly long (my lifetime) tradition in our family of NOT having cousins close in age. My Father has one sister and she had already had her two girls when I was born. I think they were something like five and ten by the time I came along. I did (and do) have a relationship with the younger one, but (at that time) the older one, not so much. I think she probably thought we were both something to be avoided at all costs, us being babies and all. As adults, we can enjoy each others company a lot, and I don’t even know now how old any of us are!
My Mothers brother and his wife, Ummel Bob and More Ummel Bob (named by Beeve, many moons ago) waited until I was a senior in high school to start their family. I’m certain I thought they were wonderful and fun, but I do remember being a TAD self involved at that time. With my life . And what I was wearing. And where I was going. And with whom. And once again, as adults we enjoy each others company and I don’t remember how old any of us are. They possibly do know how old I am, a LOT older than them.
It was our turn, almost 19 years ago this month . Our children are 2 and 1/2 and three years apart with Mousey being the youngest at 13. Ummel Beeve and More Ummel Beeve (her name for this post anyway!) married just a year after Little Girl was born and they decided to carry on the family tradition. So last October they were delivered of this Big Hunk “O”Sweetness:

Known by many names; Mister Man, Punkin-Butt (His Mama’s for him) Squirt (his Daddys) J-Ro (our kids), Jack-Jack (from the Incredibles), Kewpie doll, Little Goomba , and as his personality develops, I’m sure many more. We keep him two days while his Mom and Pop work and we are really enjoying Mr. Charming. Just wanted to brag a bit, I’m sure you will be hearing more!
