Going 10 For 10

In the last 2 days I have experienced 8 out of 10 things on my Makes Me Happy List. I think I am very blessed indeed.  And I will be able to tick off the last 2 very soon . # 8, the weekend at Mrs. Schmenkmans, will take place when I get off the plane next Thursday. And #9, a clean house, is going to have to happen by Friday night. Because we have a church function  (that is a weird word) here. And it would be in my best  interest to put my best  foot forward.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Hope all you Mom’s out there had a great day! I know I enjoyed mine. We went to church, then came home and made a big breakfast. Then Honey and I took a much needed nap. He said he was glad it was raining, he wasn’t even tempted to do yard work. We picked The Boy up from work and headed over to the Rehab facility to visit with The Grandma. She was looking very well and would like to come home now, please. She even posed for pictures:

As usual, things were rowdy and I felt bad for Mom’s roommate. We came home and ordered some pizza and salad from Benito’s. Mmmmm, it was yummay. I then totally  ruined their day by telling them I needed to take a picture.

They gave me a loverly hanging basket of verbena, a plant stand and a honeysuckle vine for the arbor in the backyard. To replace the one The Boy killed. When he accidentally spilled pool chlorine on it. Then there was a festively wrapped Lowe’s bag filled with a sprinkler, hose guard, and textured spray paints. One is to try and extend the life of  my front porch pots for another couple of years, and the other is to do the same for the patio table.

We actually started celebrating Mother’s Day yesterday. We went to see “Ironman”, which we all liked a lot, and dined at our favorite place, Ye Olde Chip-n-Dip. Yummy Guacamole! So, all in all, I had a pretty special weekend with my loved ones. Thanks Guy’s!

What’s on Your Nightstand?

Another April post that didn’t manage to make it in it’s proper month.

Last month I read a book from the library called “Crossroads” by Carol Mosher. It was just ‘ehh’. She had some interesting ideas, but it just didn’t work for me. She also had a rushed ending, and that bugs me.

My next book was something The Boy gave me. He had a great day of sales at the bookstore where he works, and they rewarded him by letting him pick something from a basket. He insisted  that I pick. I’m guessing there was nothing he wanted. So he made me walk all they way through the store to the backroom. In my sleep pants. It was called “Bachelor’s Puzzle” by Judith Pella. After I read it, I discovered it was book 1 in a series. A commitment book. It was fine, a little generic, but I liked it fine.

I have not read a great book in a while. I have actually resorted to reading some great books that I have read before!  When we were on vacation, I ran across a guilty pleasure that I have read many  times. I found it in the clubhouse. It is called “Shanna” by Kathleen E. Woodiweiss. I believe it would be called a “bodice ripper”. But OH MY GOODNESS, that Ruark Beauchamp, what a guy! I didn’t have time to finish it, but that’s ok, because I have my own copy, bought at a garage sale for 25 cents.

I have been thinking about re-reading Francine Rivers “Mark of the Lion” series. I think these have been some of my all time favorites, but there are 3 and they are pretty decent sized books. So it would be another commitment. I feel  I can say honestly that she is my favorite Christian author. Lots of history, that woman can research a time period.

The Girls and I went to the library yesterday, because it was, as Ab-Cat says, Fabulous Friday. I am pushing to change it to Terrific Thursday, because Thursday is not such a busy day. There is no physical therapy or CareGroup and it stays open til 9. As opposed to Friday’s , when it closes at 6, and really causes us to have to hustle.

So this is what I picked up yesterday:

It looks rather ambitious for 3 weeks. I know I will probably only get one or two read. But I have come home with only one or two books before , and sadly had them be duds. So now I come home in dud protection mode. I have never heard of book 1, 3, or 4, or their authors. Book 2 is a third in a series that I liked because she is a professional gardner. I have passed them on to my friend, Barbara Payne, cause she gardens as well. We like Mibby. Book 5 is the second in a series I started about 3 years ago. It took me so long because book 2 was always  checked out. Keelyody, the Walking Buddy, says there are many more in the series. Another commitment. To tell you the truth, I can’t really remember if I liked book one. Hopefully they will refresh my memory, if need be.

I’ll let you know how these turn out.

So, what’s on your nightstand?

Whoops! April Bargains

Better late than never, right?

My first bargain was purchased while on vacation last month. I mentioned in the Fashion Fiesta post that I had been looking to replace my favorite black sandals for a couple of years now. It has proved much harder than I had anticipated. But I believe that I may have actually achieved the goal with these:

They are Bare Traps and I love them. I always knew I wanted some Bare Traps. They always looked so comfortable and cute. But they were always a little too expensive. My Mom took us to Bealls, and they had a great shoe section. These were the most comfy of the many that I tried on. The regular price was $49.99 on sale 40% off to $29.99, and then I got an additional 15 % off because my Mom is old. Not so expensive after all.

I have worn them a lot already, but they will really be put to the test in 2 weeks when I head down to Mrs. Schmenkmans in Virginia. Cause we are professional shoppers. Hardcore, professional shoppers. Although, if memory serves me correctly, last year we were tired quicker than usual. I guess we are getting on in years. But I’m sure we will manage.

My next bargain was at my friendly neighborhood Marshall’s:

The shirt. Not Lucy. It was a whopping $3.00. You can’t really tell, but it is a color that goes especially well with my hair color. And looks nice with jeans, or brown Capri’s.

I am still debating this one. It was $7.00, which I like, but I’m not sure it does anything for me. I may have to try it on for Schmenky and get her opinion. It may be a wee bit low cut for me. It looks very  cute on our floor though! It is a “Life is Good “shirt.

This is not my bargain, but I am very proud of the Ab-Cat and her purchase, so I will share it as well.

After her fitting for her new standing frame , we took a look-see at a nearby Home Goods and T.J. Maxx. She fell in love with the lobster theme for some reason. Maybe it’s because Katie was a lobster for Halloween last year. So Miss Ab bought these large iced tea glasses for $3.99 for 6 of them, and the pitcher for $7.99. And it was her first purchase on her brand new credit card!!!!!!!  Our little girl is growing up. She said these were for her hope chest, but I bet she uses them now.

I also bought this for her the other day. A “Life is Good” T-shirt that says Dog Paddle for $9.99.

So there you have it, my bargains for last month. Anyone else have anything to share ?

On the Mend

Honey, the kids, and I went to visit The Grandma tonight in her new digs. It is a rehab facility in our town and it is very nice! And she is looking SO much better. Now, if she can regain her strength quickly, she will be as good as new. Hopefully better than she has been in about 5 months. Her nurse told her she didn’t think she would have to stay there long. Woo Hoo!!

It was a nice, clean, good smelling place. And you know  I place a very high premium on the good smelling . They have many  activities there. I was expecting Julie, the Cruise Director from the Love Boat to show up. Morning stretches, Bingo, ladies teas, Bible quiz-es and music trivia. She said they even went upstairs today to pet a cat from the Humane Society. The food was good, and she also mentioned that they have a salon that offered a wash and dry for $20. Color and perms available. Because that’s when I would think to have my hair done, during extended recovery of a major illness. Honey said I should put in a job application.

Everyone agreed that The Grandma looked great. We are very thankful  that she is out of the hospital and in a half way house. With any luck, she will be out in the garden in no time. Thank you all so much for your prayers!

Things are Looking Up

Thanks to everyone  for your prayers, comments, e-mails and phone calls. Last night at the hospital, my Mom finally seemed more like herself! She was sitting up in her chair having dinner when I arrived. And she looked SO much better! Perky and chatty, and even made a JOKE at one point!

They are still talking about a rehab facility for a week or so until she regains some strength. We are hoping she can get into the one in our town. It’s close and has a good reputation.

Maybe I can visit you on the blog a little more regularly now. I couldn’t seem to make myself come in here and write about my usual blather when our hearts were heavy. It seemed disrespectful and just wrong.

Thanks again for the prayers, I know that is what helped us through. They availeth-ed much! It was so good to see her eyes twinkle, just like her Daddy’s.

Long Time, No Blog

Hi Guy’s! I have missed you. But I have been a little busy.

My Mom’s in the hospital, and most of you know that already. She went in Wednesday and hopefully will come home in a day or two. Prayers are appreciated. Even if she does come home soon, she has a long recovery road ahead of her. She is just so weak. I think I mentioned that she had an appendectomy at the beginning of the year, and she really hadn’t bounced back from that, so this is a double whammy. But, she is a very tough lady, and if she can just get healthy, and stay that way  for about 20 minutes, she will be on the mend.  More later, I really need to go to bed!
