Every day the search engine sends me people. People who have googled words looking for particular things. Here are the top 25 words. Some of them amuse me. Some of them perplex me.

As you can see by the number one search, almost every single day I get folks looking for leprechaun names. All I can say is WHY? Who even thinks about leprechaun names any time other than around the teens of March? Every stinkin’ day! Sometimes 2 or 3. And all I did was post a silly little quiz about finding out your leprechaun name. It was a throwaway post, and yet, it appears to be meeting a need for all of those leprechaun seekers. Leprechaun is a weird word. I never noticed that before.

No whining allowed is an obvious choice. I don’t necessarily think everyone is looking for me. It’s a good line, I didn’t make it up.

Looking for Ed Grimley makes me smile. I must say! I watched Pat Sajak’s Wheel of Fortune yesterday with my Parents. He’s a good guy, that Pat.

Of course we have all the spanking searches inspired by Mrs. Schmenkman’s cat, Poppet, who quite enjoys a good one. This one is personally amusing to me because Poppet is a good friend of mine, but also a little creepy for all the spanking seekers. How I must disappoint them. I am SO not sorry.

I am going out on a limb here. If someone googles caprik? They are most likely looking for me. I don’t think that is a real word in any other context.

A lot of the others are just little words or phrases that I have used in passing. Although, I don’t understand why anyone would be actively looking for “hobo pants”. Which, by the way, if you need a pair, I can get you some. REAL CHEAP.

There you have my top 25 searches of all time. Interesting how leprechaun zoomed to the top in a mere 9 months.

***Edit: As of 7:21 a.m.today, 3 more added to the leprechaun search. I ask again, WHY?***

Things I am Loving

I am resorting to the handy dandy list format, because I still feel as dry as a bugs hull. No identifiable juices flowing.

1. I am still loving my confetti lantana. I hope I can find another next year. That’s how much I heart it.

007

2. I love, love, love this color of impatiens. And I especially like it paired with this yellow.

017

3. Always love this kitty-witty. Halle Berry,  peeking a boo.

004

4. Loving “Top Chef”, and ”Project Runway”. I was trying to get Mrs. Schmenkman to get on board and watch. So we could discuss it. She said no, all the drama reminded her of beauty school and the salon. I can see her point, but I’m still watching. Maybe she will join us soon for the biggest loser show. Maybe not.

5. And last, but NOT LEAST! I am loving having 2 new drivers in the house!!!! I love their new found independence, self confidence, AND, less schlepping for me!

Finally, something that I am NOT loving. Once, several years ago, on the first Capri Weekend Extravaganza that I was invited to attend, Capri Lis (aka, Mrs.Schmenkman) made a comment that I didn’t quite understand. She said she loved all God’s creatures, except the Japanese beetle. She thought that perhaps God had made a mistake. I had no comment about the subject, since I didn’t know anything about Japanese beetles. When I saw these scourges, I had the thought that they may just be a little beetle-ish. I asked Capri Patt, and she confirmed that yes, they were the dread breed. They done wrecked my sweet potato vine! Chewing and mating all over the place. Nasty bugs.

012

How about you all? Loving anything? Or NOT loving anything?

This and That-Things I’m Loving

I have just a few schnibbles of goodness to share.

1. This has been my breakfast of choice for most mornings this summer.

001

A generous helping of Dannon plain yogurt, add 3 Splenda’s, a handful of blueberries, and 4 strawberries. Then add a goodish amount of this granola. I have tried other kinds, but have come to the conclusion that only this brand will do. It’s the perfect amount of crunchy. Since Sam’s no longer carries it, as they discontinue all of my favorite things, I was happy to discover it at Trader Joe’s. They had a much better price than either Meijers or Krogers. Yummo!

2. Big “Top Chef” AND “Project Runway” started this week! We are so happy, oh so happy!

Except we were so  disappointed  that Korto did not win the all star challenge episode of “Project Runway”, instead of Daniel. Her designs are so consistently fabulous and wearable, and I’m sorry Daniel, I just don’t know what the judges were raving about. I don’t know anyone who would wear anything you created. And judges, you thought his restaurant part of the challenge was “fun”? Honey thought it looked like she had dynamite strapped to her torso! OK, we are out of touch with fashion in America. We love you, Korto!!!

3. My confetti lantana is looking beautimous! It was a pathetic wreck of a thing when I bought it for $5 at the meat market. I had seen one at a house on the garden walk that I went to with The Peanuts Champ, so I knew how loverly it could look. Best yet, it’s loaded with blooms!

 007

4. That our ridiculous humidity has dropped for the moment. I was melting.

5. Loving that the festival known as “BoobSmash”,  is over until next year. This year, my reminder note told me not to wear any deodorant. They usually say light deodorant. I believe I may have mentioned that my internal thermometer is about 10-15 degrees warmer than usual these days. Why, no, I wasn’t at all nervous as a cat about being Hottie McDottie with NO deodorant. I had it in my purse and it was the first thing I did when I got into the car. Sweet relief.

What are you loving these days?

RIP

I am pretty sure that everyone now knows that Michael Jackson has died. Anyone who has watched TV since yesterday, would have caught that from the All Michael, All the Time, television coverage.

We watched some of it, because our Girls were shocked. I remember feeling the same way when Elvis and Princess Diana died. I wasn’t a huge fan or anything, it was just shocking.

About three weeks ago, Mousey had checked out a  Thriller  cd from the library. We listened to it on the way home. The Girls were asking all kids of questions about him, and his videos, and then, all the weirdness. I told them some of my recollections.

Since I am all about the list lately, I will continue that format. I am a firm believer that if it isn’t broke, I’m sure not going to fix it.

1. My first memory of him was on American Bandstand when I was very young. We happened to be “down home” in Tennessee at my Aunt Lottie’s house. My cousins Tammy and Joan were yelling “come quick, you have to see this”, and there were, the Jackson 5, in all their groovy 70’s clothing, huge Afros, harmonious singing and awesome dancing, glory. I’m pretty sure they sang ABC. I remember thinking that Michael was so little and cute and MAN, could those guys dance! At our school, you either liked The Jackson 5 or The Osmond’s. I never caught that Osmond fever. To tell you the truth, I was really more of a Partridge Family kind of girl.

2. Suzanne Suzanna Danna and I watched the Motown anniversary special together. We actually said that we KNEW we were witnessing  history when he moon walked across the stage singing Billie Jean. It was a moment, my friends.

3. I don’t remember hearing too much about him until Thriller EXPLODED onto the scene. OH, how my friends,  Suzie and Dawn and I loved that album! We must have worn the grooves off it.

4. I remember hurrying to a friend house, in the middle of the day, to see the WORLD PREMIER of the Thriller video and being ever so impressed! We had never seen anything like that before!

5. Back in the car, on the way home from the library, I told the Girls that “Beat It” will always be, in my personal opinion, the perfect song from my 80’s experience. I.LOVED.THAT.SONG.

Unfortunately, for me, it was pretty much downhill after that. He then morphed into Mr. Wack-A-Doodle, and I assumed the stance of a person watching a train wreck, complete with look of horror on my face every time I saw a new picture of him. I pray his children will land in a safe, loving, sane, place.

After the awesome  ”Beat It”, I think my favorite songs were “I’ll Be There” ,”I Want You Back”, “PYT”  and “Black and White”.           How about you?

Walk On

As I mentioned yesterday, the walking season has begun. Keelyody and I have 2 basic paths that we walk.

When we have had a lot of rain, or if the weather looks “iffy”, we walk in both of our subdivisions, which are connected. Therefore , if heavens floodgates open, we are either 1/2 way to her house, or halfway to ours. We can take refuge and drive each other home. I have already mentioned that we are fair weather walkers. And rain is just annoying when you both wear glasses. This walk is fine, but not the preferred path.

If all is right in our world, we walk the other, preferred path. We walk out of her sub, through another sub, and down 2 dirt roads. There are several reasons why this is the route we enjoy most.

1. It’s longer, and we need  longer.

2. We have decided that our bodies get a better workout on uneven roads and a hillier terrain.

3. It’s SO pretty! We both live in loverly subdivisions, but something about walking through a canopy of trees is just so picturesque. One of the roads has even been designated some special fancy nature road that cannot be paved. Although, personally, I don’t think a nicely blacktopped road would diminish my nature viewing pleasure, but that’s just me.

Wednesday we had a little trouble with the nature. Some sort of buzzing insects were driving us crazy trying to sample our nectar. That sounds so much more pleasant than saying they were swarming our sweaty ears and necks. One of those pesky things bit Keelyody on the arm, and by the time we got home it was a dandy little bump. I heard her say, “I hate nature”.

4. Because of all the shade, it’s MUCH cooler.

5. I’m all out, we just like it better.

One time I drove the subdivision path and it was almost 3 miles. We never knew how far the preferred path was, we just assumed it was around the same.

Honey and I happened to be in the truck the other day, and it has the right kind of odometer. The kind that measures in 10ths. Our other cars don’t have that feature for some reason. I told Honey that I would like to drive the route, as I have always wondered how far we walked.

I am here to tell you that we walk 5.2 miles! And that is far farther  than either Keelyody or I  would have guessed!

When I told her she said she felt thinner already.

The Care and Maintenance of the Temple

I told you all of my reasoning for exercising here. It’s really very simple. Honey needs me around to care for him in his old age. Because it is generally NOT something that I enjoy.

UNTIL, I found my Walking Buddy, Keelyody. She is great. She is reliable, AND  a good conversationalist. What more could I ask for?

The last couple of years, our walking season has been from around mid April, through the end of October, or beginning of November. Basically, whenever the snow leaves, and whenever it comes back to haunt us. Because we are fair weather walkers. Things can start and end abruptly as well. Because we are both life long Michiganders and we know that one day we can be wearing shorts, and the next breaking out the Carharts and furry boots. It’s how we roll up here in The Mitten.

This year, our first day of walking was last Monday. Because Keelyody went back  to work last winter, and her job was done with the school year. Then we had VBS, and you know, now we are available!

Probably for the last couple of months, every time we saw each other at church, we took turns saying ”Oh, I need to start walking!”. We are tipping the scale into our mid forties, and my body is staging a revolt. Which revolts me.

I have a confession to make. My once reliable body is betraying me. In more ways than one. I don’t recognize this body. And I sure don’t know how to dress it. I am a stranger in my own expanding skin.

I have noticed that all the terms I use to describe myself are animal related.

1. My metabolism is as stubborn as a mule.

2. When did I start sporting a kangaroo pouch? I can see exactly where all three of our children resided for all 27 months while I carried them. Make that 28 1/2 months. They were all 2 weeks late. None of them wanted to leave me, I was a good hostess.

3. I am tired as a dog lately. Sometimes for good reason, sometimes not.

4.Who tied that soft, squishy, flabby cat belly around my torso? Upper belly, lower belly, upper and lower BACK! Who are you???????

5. What up with the Rhino b*tt???  Or as my Grandma Georgia would so lovingly say, “she looks as wide as Africa”.

We were both very pleased to have squeezed in two days of walking this week. I feel very thankful  to have done that because her son’s graduation party is this Saturday and she has had one or 4000 things to do this week.

Plus, as an added bonus, we can now start discussing and solving all of the world’s problems again. Because as you can see, things are spiralling out of control all over the world  without us.

This and That

1. I have a feeling I am going to be warm this summer. Today was a beautiful day, and the temperature went up in the 80’s. No humidity, just hot sun. The house was nice and cool, the ceiling fans were on, and I had an ice water on hand. But MAN, I was warm. It seems that my core temperature has risen about 10 degrees this past year! Not having hot flashes. Just hot ALL THE TIME.  Thank you perimenopause!

2. We are loving “The Big Bang Theory” . Who knew nerds could be SO funny?

3. Honey has also discovered a new show. “King of Queens”. It has replaced “Everybody Loves Raymond” for the time being. But I am having a hard time believing that he has quit The Barones. He loves them so.

4. The Boy and LMNOP have christened the pool, it’s open for the season. They have taken the honor away from The Ab-Cat and Beeve, who have had it for the last couple of summers. They said it was 70 and  cold. Ya think?

5. The kids are all working at VBS this week. I went up just before it ended today with Little Goomba, so he could see the kids singing and dancing. I think he liked it. He clapped all the way out to the van!

Why’s

1. Why is it if you are wearing black, your cats get all romantical?

2. Why do people honk their horns if you don’t take off  within 3 seconds after the light turns green? Get a grip, People!

3. Why is 65 degrees in the rain so much colder  than 65 degrees in the overcast?

4. Why do people act all passive aggressive and expect you not to notice? Or maybe they want  you to notice so you can wonder what their problem is? Sorry, too much mental calculation, and I. Do. Not. CARE.

5. Why do I always seem to have a wide grey streak  of new growth in my part, when my hair does not seem to be growing much longer?

6. Why did it take me so long to figure out that the road that I always take to BSF is the worst stinkin’ road in our town? I took a different road, by accident, and was pleasantly surprised.

7. Why did I buy Mint Meltaway ice cream and ask The Ab-Cat to make her scrum-tru-lescent brownies this weekend to go with it? Because I know that is not what I should be eating.

8. Why is it that every time I turn around, another week has gone by?

9. Why do our children not listen when I am trying to impart my pearls of  great wisdom?

10. Why do I procrastinate about things I know I have to do anyway? That is SO dumb.

Very Random Thoughts

These are just some things I have been thinking about. In no particular order of importance. Or non importance.

1. There is a rumor that the kids may be Oinked for the entire week. This will not be a problem, unless they make them make it up at the end of the year. That would play havoc with our church’s VBS program. Always scheduled for the first week after school lets out. And while that may not be a big deal for some churches to have it anyway, or move it to another week, it would be a huge problem for our church. We rely heavily on the older youth for our program, AND, they leave the very next week for their summer camp. Plus, the VBS is pretty large and lots of workers arrange their jobs and schedules to help out and bring their kids. And finally, not many children will be able to attend if they are all still, you know, in school.

But why am I worried about all this? I am pretty sure that God, the Creator of the Universe,  can handle it without all of my thinking. Is anything too hard for Him?

2. In 16 days, I will go to Mrs. Schmenkmans house in Virginia for our Annual Memorial Day LONG Weekend Extravaganza!! I can’t even begin to tell you how this excites me! Shopping, eating, lounging and talking with a dear old friend for 6 days? Heaven on earth.

3. I am 3/4 way finished with switching my clothes over from winter to summer. I am 0% finished switching Honey’s. But his is quicker and should only take a few minutes.

4. I need to go out and clean off The Little Goomba’s swing. Because he will surely want to use it later. There are 1400 bird dupers on it. It looks like a flock of seagulls had breakfast on top of the swingset.

5. Mousey and I helped Honey with the mulching yesterday. It is in no way finished, but we are glad the The Boy is available to help him finish the rest today. Mouse and I have decided that we hate the smell of mulch. Honey said he actually likes it. I am shaking my head. He has a deaf nose.

6. Honey and I watched the first disc of the HBO mini-series “John Adams” this weekend. I have been a fan of John Adams for a while now. Mostly because of his wonderful relationship with his wife, Abigail. But in watching this story unfold, I am reminded how ridiculously lazy, whiny, shallow and ignorant most of us Americans are now. I am not sure how much of this history Honey even knows, since he was born and educated as a Canadian, and they may have been compelled to teach about their history.

I remember studying this time period in 7th or 8th grade, and really being more concerned with getting my facts straight so I could pass the tests, than actually understanding what our forefathers were really trying to do. And I can’t help but think that they would not be all that impressed with the  disgraceful business that takes place  in our capital, and all across our land. They had a much higher view of “we the people”. We think we are so suchy-muchy. We are so not.

I will see you again tomorrow for another episode of Way Back When-sday. It would be grand if you would join us!! It is a whole lot of fun!
