This and That

I feel very boring today. So I apologize right up front.

Just some tidbits floating around. How I do love The List format.

1. The Dunkin’ Donut/Baskin Robbins in our town has suddenly closed. Honey is concerned. He stops in there frequently on his way to work. Because he says they have the best coffee and cream. He stopped to read the sign they have posted. It says it is temporary, but they put up paper on the windows. What can this mean? Sold, remodeling, health code violations ? His other option is Tim Horton coffee. Which failed miserably. He is now making his coffee at home. :(

2. This morning,  I hit the very center of my knee cap SO hard on the hand controls of The Ab-Cats van, that I thought I was going to throw up. I haven’t done anything like that in a long time. I am totally fine now. Except for the memory.

3. I would be very happy if I could fast forward through March, right to Easter break! I would like to go to Florida next week, and leave cold, dreary, rainy, snowy, brown Michigan in my rear view window.

4. I am so happy that Hosea won Big Top Chef !!!!! I would have been just as happy if Carla  had won!!! So basically, it was anyone  but Stefan.

I am very sad that the Guy who sang Coldplay did not get through on American Idol. I thought he was one of the best singers in the competition, although I agree that he was HORRID on Wednesday night. There is always the Wildcard.  SIGH. I need to state for the record that while I was not surprised  that Mr. Satisfaction made it, he is just a bit too frantic  for me. And I don’t think he is all that suchy muchy.

5. We are having homemade pizza sometime this weekend. WOO HOO!!!!  As soon as our children can get their schedules coordinated.

Have a good day.

We Rode the Storm Out Without the Aid of REO Speedwagon

Well, we made it. With a half of stick of butter to spare. Whew! Sam’s is in my future this week.

The Winter Storm Warning Storm wasn’t so bad. And I would know, as I had to be out in it about 6 times.

We have had a nice relaxing weekend. I was glad. Because for some reason, I was a wee bit tired.

We are mostly caught up with the DVR fare.

Hey, does anyone else watch Top Chef? We were so disappointed that they got rid of Fabio over Stefan! Fabio made us laugh every single week  and all we ever felt about Stefan was that he was SO conceited.

The kids are off on Winter Break this week. Knowing that I have on hand babysitters for The Goomba, I have taken the opportunity to set up a lunch date.

There have been times in my life when I went out to lunch regularly. As a matter of fact, the year Mousey started 1st grade, Honey teased me mercilessly. He told everyone that it was my job.

But that was 8 years ago, and my lunch dates are now few and far between. So therefore, probably more anticipated.

I had a thought over the weekend to try and get together with a friend that I have not lunched with in forever.  We used to go a lot after BSF on Thursdays, and even managed to keep it up for a while after she moved on. But lately, we just talk  about going when we see each other at church. I told Honey of my plan, and let him know that I was looking for this Gal at church. I was casing the joint.

As soon as I saw her, I made a beeline over there. She was available! We’re going! Where we used to always go, for old time sake. I’m really looking forward to it! Could you tell?

One more thing. The Ab-Cat made brownies this weekend. The Hershey’s kind from Sam’s. That are scru-tru-lescent! And I had the brilliant  idea to put some Stroh’s or Dean’s Mint Melt-a-Way ice cream on top of those brownies. They were worthy  my Friends, worthy.

This and That

I am watching Honey run to the mailbox. Wearing my shoes, that don’t fit him. It’s making me laugh.

We had a good weekend. The Boy and Mousey went to camp with the youth group. So of course, they had mucho fun. But Honey, Ab-Cat and I? We did alright. I was going to say it the way Randy from American Idol says it. I always feel foolish when I do that. So I put it back, the right way.

On Thursday, Honey made salsa. Someday we will all become rich when he starts his own business to actually sell the stuff.  We are still stuck on the name of the company.

He was making this batch for a guy at work who was having a Superbowl party.

Back to the weekend. On Friday night we ate dinner at a restaurant we like. We can only go there when The Boy is not present. He does not dig Arabic food. Mousey particularly enjoys this place as well. Too bad for her, she was off having mucho fun elsewhere.

On Saturday night we were going to go to Outback. Abby’s treat!  That is a treat when your children take you out for dinner!!! But Honey had spent the whole day fixing the water heater, and I was unaware that I would not be able to take a shower until the dang thing heated up again. By the time I was ready, it was 6. You cannot eat in our town after 5:30. Unless you want to wait. Which I DO NOT. I believe I may have mentioned that I turn into a complete beast if I get too hungry. And I was about an eyelash away from that point.

So we toured our town, and another nearby town, and settled on Culver’s. A burger and fries has seldom tasted so good. Plus, Ab and I had Concrete Mixers. She: Cookie Dough, Me: Strawberry Bonbon. Honey had Butter Brickle in a dish. I’m sure she came out paying less than if we had went “Outback Tonight”. Thanks for dinner Ab!

We then watched random things collected all week by our ever so reliable and devoted DVR. We heart it. We also watched a strange, sweet, little movie called “Henry Poole is Here”.

I knitted a great deal this weekend. I have many scarves yet to make. With every one, I learn something new. I will be a baby genius by next week. Don’t worry Honey and BFG. I will never catch up with you Guys.

The one on the right is  still sans fringe. I call it the “Superbowl”. Because that is when I made it. The one on the left is Schmenky’s. It has blue in it as requested. I call it “The Schmenkman”.  Because I am original.

The kids came home yesterday at around 4:30. The Boy had called and said that their bus had broken down, but another church bus had picked them up and deposited them home. I am very thankful. You know I have issues about driving on freeways. And my children being gone.

They were both so glad to be home. And to shower. And eat anything other than yukky camp food.

We all watched the Superbowl. Except Miss Muggins Q. Mouse. She played Solitaire. We were a house divided. The Boy and The Ab-Cat were for the Steeler’s. Honey and I were for the red team. Because Kurt Warner is a Christian. I’m sure that I have just surprised you all that I know his name. The only other thing  I know about him is that he has 7 kids. I just kept saying “7 kids, really?”

Plus, I always like the underdog. We really thought they might pull it off. I spent the majority of the game worried about the players with the long hair streaming out of their helmets. Every time they said the name Cromartie, we all said “CROMARTIE!”.  Because that is the name of the bad  Terminator on The Sarah Connor Chronicles. So, you can see,  I was heavily invested in the game.

We enjoyed our snack of choice.

And that is all I have to say about that.

This and That

I have decided to start a new category. Because sometimes you only have a snippet of this and a schnibble of that to share. Which is exactly where I am today. Again, riveting, I know. This could get random.

1. We made pizza again on Saturday night. It was yummy! Unfortunately, something spilled on the bottom of the oven. Not the first time, by any means. Katie was frantically barking. Trying to tell us we needed to get out of the house immediately or we were all going to BURN!  That is what she does whenever we fry, or cook, or burn something. She takes her job of Protecting Pet seriously.  Honey felt we should use the automatic cleaning feature, so the oven wouldn’t smoke the next time we used it.  I wasn’t that excited about cleaning it. Because it stinks up the house. And I believe I may have mentioned that I have an aversion to stinky things. Well, something happened, or melted. And now the screen is blank and we can’t even get the door unlocked. We now cannot use our clean oven.  This is Honey,  : (   He wanted to make some scones that he saw on a new cooking show. Moral of the story? Don’t clean your oven.

2. A shelf in the refrigerator broke. FOR NO GOOD REASON. Honey is trying to Super glue it. I don’t know if  it can be done.

3. I have not worked on my puzzle since I started it.

4. I kept thinking that Mousey had an orthodontist appointment. It should be coming up soon. My friend The Saint loaned us her copy of ”The Shack” in October or November. The last time I looked at it was when I took it to the orthodontist for Mousey’s last appointment.  I looked at it today. Her next appointment slip was being used as a bookmark. It said her appointment was December 18.  In the year 2008.

5.  Honey and I have been immersed in weight loss shows. We started watching “The Biggest Loser” AND  ”The Discovery Health Channel Body Challenge”. I even watched another one called “Diet Tribe”. It’s like a train wreck, we CAN’T look away!   I ate lunch at Checkers today. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy it.

6. I believe I may have mentioned that I hit my target date to get most of my Christmas cards out. WOO HOO!!  Some others went out a week later. For various reasons.  At the end of our Christmas letter, I put the Blob address. I have been so excited to have some dear friends leave comments!! There have been a lot of e-mails flying back and forth, EXACTLY what I had been hoping for!

Well, that should be all the excitement you folks can handle in one post.
