Birthday Celebration!

Hi Guys.

We had a birthday celebration this weekend!

The Ab-Cat turned 22 on Friday, and we needed to eat really good food in her honor. It is our way.

Honey dressed in his best ‘Tater clothes, and donned the new apron Abby gave him for Christmas. My Mom gave him the hat a while ago.

Mmmm, steak.

There were 2 Taste From Home appetizer dips, made by Mousey. Garlic toast, steak, green beans, a mountain of homemade fries, her very favorite mac and cheese from GFS. No Stouffer’s for her, generic ALL THE WAY!

Cherry chip cake and a wish.

Memory foam mattress topper! It is expanding in her room right now as I write. She also got some new, deeper sheets because , as I have learned recently, the topper makes your normal sized sheets flip off the corners. Some sweaters, a Bible case and a bracelet from Mousey that said “Be the change you wish to see in the world”, rounded out the gifts.

The Goomba was here. He likes a good wrestling match. Or pig pile. The Boy was, unfortunately, on the bottom.

Goomba is ALL about the Super Heroes lately. The Boy and Honey fashioned this Iron Man chest plate. Carry out container and masking tape. It’s a beautiful thing.

Mousey is back to school this morning after enjoying a week of Winter Break. She said she enjoyed her time off immensely.

This week, The Ab-Cat and The Boy are Breaking for the Winter. Coordinating Breaks? Nonexistent at this stage.

Enjoy winter, or enjoy a break. Have some kind of a day today.

Schmenky’s On the World Wide Web!

Mrs. Schmenkman is stuffed full of talent!

From gardening, to shopping, to raising critters, to decorating, to fancy holiday decorating, to mosaics, and MORE. Stuffed, I tell you!

She has been working on creating a Sassy Cat Hill website for some time now. So she could sell her mosaic-y wares. But she wasn’t happy with this, and had a glitch with that, and then was advised to revise her prices and not let her sparkling beauties go for a song.

But she has now launched, and it is beautimous!

Go check it out!

This and That of The Week

Today is The Ab-Cat’s actual birthday. Since she was born at 1:56 a.m., she is already twenty two years old. WOW. Where did those years get to? Many thanks for the sweet birthday wishes from you all. I told her about them.

She says she doesn’t read the blob, because blobs are dumb, but I have sincere doubts about that. It is my suspicion that she secretly read, and was secretly pleased. I thank you just the same!

I think we will celebrate her birthday tomorrow with her favorite dinner of steak and fries!

We are being treated to another 3-4 inches of snow on this blustery Friday. This is the whitest winter I can recall in many years. I heard a rumor that we are to experience a thaw. To be perfectly honest? I prefer the whiteness to seeing the inevitable MUD fest that is our front yard. Of course, in theory, I’m ready for spring. I am. Oh yes, I am.

Honey put air in the new exercise ball I bought at Christmas time. It has been an integral part of my physical therapy. Since I only have 1 more visit left with the therapist, I had better get the tools in place to strengthen my own non-existent core.

As for my PT progress? I would say that everything I have been doing has not made the situation worse. I have not been experiencing near as much sciatic pain running down my leg. The strengthening can only help me. The memory foam has made sleeping more comfortable. But my back still hurts. Daily. Some days worse than others, but still an aggravation.

I am going to keep it up though, and maybe one day, the core will be there!

Honey, Mousey and I have really been enjoying a show called Who Do You Think You Are? They take a celebrity, and research their family history. So far, we have gone back in time with Vanessa Williams, Tim McGraw, and Rosie McDonnell. It’s SO interesting! I am pretty sure it is on tonight, but I don’t know what channel, we watch it on the DVR.  We like it so much, I asked Abby to see if she can get the episodes from last year on her Netflix. I remember seeing commercials for it, but never got around to DVR-ing it. Check it out!

Mainly, I think it would be interesting to have this done. Honey knows his roots lead directly back to Belgium and Italy. I have no such information. My paternal grandmother said someone in her extended family traced their roots back to Wales. Other names in the family seem to be English or Scottish. And some meander back to other parts of Europe as well. But no facts. I remember watching Roots in the 70s and thinking how COOL it would be to know that sort of history about your family. Oral, or otherwise.  Maybe someday I will learn how to do this.

Have an interesting weekend!

Way Back When-sday Hodgepodge-Happy Birthday Ab-Cat!

I am combining again! Thanks Joyce! Head on over to her place to read more answers to the same questions.

1. Did you know there is a National Day of pretty much everything in the universe? February 23 happens to be National Inconvenience Yourself Day…when was the last time you were inconvenienced?

I have never heard of this day! As a mother, I am a little bit used to being inconvenienced. Regularly. I don’t usually mind, unless I have my pajamas on and someone needs something RIGHT NOW. That can be annoying.

Also, when Mousey misses the bus on Wednesday or Thursday, and I have to drive her to school? She wins the title of “Least Favorite Child Today” because she throws off my groove to get ready for BSF and out the door by 7:45. That’s the one I am going with.

2. When a room in your house needs painting who does the job?

Honey is more than capable, but I have done all of the indoor painting at this house. Most with my personal decorator, Capri Patt! Hi Capri Patt!!!

3. Are you friends with your cousins?

I am! We don’t get to see each other much, but I like them a lot! We are a scattered bunch, Indiana, Florida, Iowa, Ohio. There are a couple here in The Mitten that I see once or twice a year. Some of them even read the Blob! Hi Robin, Cindy and Lindsay!!!

I do have to say that I don’t know some of them very well. Lots are much older, there is a California contingent that I have not seen since childhood, a southern branch that is lost to me, and several branches I have never met at all. But the ones I do know? I would say they are a friendly bunch!

4. Do you use an alarm clock? If yes-is it an actual alarm, music, or something else?

I have an alarm clock that is set to go off to a local radio station, but 9 out of 10 times, I get my own self up before it goes off. It’s really more of a back-up for me in case I sleep till 6. Mousey might miss the bus, you know.

5. What do you put ketchup on?

Hamburgers. Period.

Really, only The Boy is a fan of the ketchup around here.

6. What smells make you nostalgic?

Smelling Noxzema reminds me of my Grandma Georgia. When I used to spend the night at her house, we would wash our faces together. Mousey has started using it, so I have been feeling nostalgic a lot. Bonnie Bell lotion takes me back to her.

My Grandma Hoover’s house smelled a certain way. It was a good smell, and I can’t tell you what it was, but I know it when I smell it! I also kept a small jar of powder that I found somewhere because it smelled like her. It was Avon’s Forever Spring Sachet. I have no idea if she really wore it, but I have had it for years, and my nose knows. Ivory soap also reminds me of her.

The smell of fur reminds me of my Mother. She had a mink stole and several fur coats. When she was going out and leaned down to give me a kiss and hug goodnight, I would end up smelling the fur. It smelled glamorous!

Of course Baby Magic lotion makes me miss our precious babies, who are now all big palookas.

7. Have you heard about the high school English teacher recently suspended as a result of some things she wrote in her personal blog? You can read the story here but in a nutshell she vented a lot of frustration onto her blog. She didn’t mention individual students by name but she did make some harsh comments about kids in general and their parents.

What are your thoughts-If you’re a parent is your child’s teacher online and are you ‘friend’ or ‘follower’ there? If you’re a teacher are you on facebook and do you accept or friend students on fb? How about their parents? If you’re a student are you friends with your current or former teachers online? Do any of them have blogs you read? If you’re a teacher or a parent do you ever use your blog as a place to vent your frustrations with our educational system? So much to discuss…

You know, I haven’t heard about it, but I don’t know if I think it is a big deal. If she wasn’t naming names, and was just venting? Well, it was her personal blog. Maybe her mistake was telling parents about her blog. I would hate to think that someone would get all riled up about something that I wrote about here. There is always the option for people to not read.

I never had a desire to befriend our kid’s teachers outside of school, even though some I quite liked. I don’t think I would have felt the need to seriously vent about things like that on the blog anyway. Sounds like DRAMA to me, and I avoid DRAMA and those who enjoy it.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

This week is The Ab-Cat’s 22nd birthday!

Wasn’t she a Darling?

I can’t say exactly how old she is here, but she is standing, so it was before the car accident when she was 6 1/2.

I love to look at pictures of her when she was young.

She was always so happy and unguarded. Such a ham! Such a dear, precious, girl.

Here are 22 words to describe her. Now AND then.

Our Church Family is Grieving

February 22, 2011

Dear Trinity family and friends,

It is with an incredible heaviness of heart that I inform you that Founding Pastor William C. Moore has lost his battle with intra-vascular lymphoma.  We were informed early this morning that the cumulative effects of his cancer were too great, and that he passed into the arms of the Lord peacefully, with his family at his side.  Our deepest condolences go out to his wife Cindy, children Kathy, Dan, Tom and Phil, along with their spouses and children.

As a people of God, we have prayed fervently for Bill’s healing.  We have given thanks for the many answers to prayer that God has given – for the ability of his family to be present with him, for his transport to Mayo clinic, for receiving a diagnosis of this rare disease, for the kind and skilled care of the doctors and nurses – and so many more.  I suspect that every single one reading this notice has spent time crying out to God for Bill’s healing.  We are sad, confused, and maybe even angry that we will not be able to speak with, be taught by, or be loved by Pastor Moore again on this earth.  At the same time, we trust in faith that our sovereign God has indeed answered our prayers by bringing complete and utter healing to Bill in eternity with Him.  The Apostle Paul himself looked forward to the completion of our redemption which comes at death when he said, “Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.  We live by faith, not by sight.  We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.  So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.”  (2 Corinthians 5:6-9)

Bill Moore is with the Lord.  We will all miss him dearly.  For me personally, I grieve the loss of one of my closest friends, my mentor, and my colleague.  Each of you has special memories of Dr. Moore.  Grieve well, but couple your grief with eternal hope.  He has fought the good fight.  He has finished the race.  He has kept the faith.  Through the work of Jesus Christ, we will see him again in glory.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all,

Pastor Mark

He was a true shepherd of his flock. His devoted wife Cindy was in our leaders circle at BSF for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and their family today. Bill no longer needs our prayers. He is in Glory with his Savior.

Revelation 21:4

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Back To Regularly Scheduled Winter

Remember I mentioned that we had a major thaw? And there was mud, oh the mud?

It started snowing yesterday, and it never stopped! We drove over to Capri Deb and Bfg’s in the snow. Had a delightful meal and visit.  It continued snowing the WHOLE time we were there. We heard Thundersnow! We drove home in blizzard-y conditions!

It started piling up.

This morning, we were right back where we started before the thaw. I actually think we have more snow than we had during the Snow-pocolypse a couple weeks ago! It’s a good thing I had enough cream and butter, because I didn’t even know this one was coming!!!!

Maybe 9-10 inches. And it’s supposed to snow on and off all day for another 2-3.

All of this would have been just a blip on the radar for us, as Mousey is on Winter Break this week, and they closed the older two’s college early. But The Schmenkman’s were here! And they needed to get back home to Virginia to do chores and make sure their house was not burned down by the big wild fires sweeping through their area!!!

Her sweatshirt says Life is Good. Her face says otherwise.

Shoveling out.

For you, Warren!

Praying them back home to Virginny. I thought this was appropriate with the snow plow in the background. Be safe Schmenkman’s!

It’s like the thaw never even happened.

This looks like the best way to spend the day.

Hoopty Driveway

We have had a major thaw up here in The Mitten, which we are not complaining about.

But, the thaw revealed our broken driveway, which had been thankfully frozen and snow covered.

The mud, oh the mud!

Honey and The Boy went to Lowe’s Depot (one of them) to bridge the gap.

Just a couple more months until we can get new concrete.

I am so happy for the Hoopty!

Why Stop Now?

Let’s just keep the week-o-lists coming!

1. I woke up at 3:00. And that is just wrong. Especially since I have many, many things to do today before I rest again.

2. I am loving American Idol this season! Even this pre-actual show- part, which is usually my very least favorite part. Who knew there were SO many talented 15 and 16 year olds out there? There are so many, it seems like they should spread the talent out over a couple of seasons.

3. And who knew that Steven Tyler would be such an appreciative lover of ALL kinds of music?

4. That being said, WHY for the love of all that is decent and right did they put that crying, emotional, basket case of a girl through?? I am not going to be able to  put up with that nonsense for much longer. I’m sorry, but she is UNSTABLE. I’m sure she is a very nice person though.

5. I know that all the judges are love, love, loving the emotional, Asperger -Tourette’s  guy, but I am not a fan of his sort of  Adam Lambert-esque screeching. He also seems pitchy, Dawg. I am sure he is also a very nice person.

6. Someone broke something very big at work and Honey (along with others) has been working like a DOG to get the line back up and running. Every time I turn around he is leaving early or getting home late from work. I say every day, “is it finished yet?” and he says “almost”. But then it never IS. Someone did a doozy. And no, it was not Honey! He’s not a breaker, he’s a fixer.

7. The Schmenkman’s are coming!!!! The Schmenkman’s are coming!!!!!!

8. It is 52 degrees here, right this very moment! In the morning! We are enjoying the reprieve, but no one seriously thinks that winter is over. This is Michigan. Negative 6 last week, 50’s this week, who knows what next week. It’s the way of The Mitten.

9. I am hungry. If I eat now, I will need to have lunch at 10.

10. By the way, The Schmenkman’s are coming!!!! The Schmenkman’s are coming!!!!!!

Have a nice weekend.
