The Birds

Our yard backs up to a field. There were visitors in the field yesterday.

017

Swarms of visitors.

020

What are these guys thinking? Don’t they know they should have all flown south already? It’s going to get cold and snowy any day now.

021

It was flock after flock of birds, zigging this way, then that way. In the air.

022

On the ground.

026

Back in the trees. Like they were practicing to be a flock.

027

Then they all flew away. Strange. It was like bird tag.

Wife and I were in school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville and they had a huge bird problem. The birds, much like yours, would fly in huge packs and were incredibly loud and poopy. Vanderbilt bought propane cannons they would fire into the trees periodically to run the birds off. It never really worked but it made many students also poopy

I love watching the birds! They fly in groups around here way more than I’ve ever seen anywhere else. They fly in patterns and break off and then land and then start again.

I was reading about this a little, and it seems that many species of birds flock together in the winter….in huge flocks. I wonder why?
