10 Thoughts For Your Friday Viewing Pleasure. Or disPleasure

Hi Guys. Here are my schnibbles of stuff for this Friday.

1. Well, we found out what is going on across the street. The same company was on our street all last summer, working on the house two doors down from them. That house had all manner of necessary, outside, un-fun, things done to it. New windows, siding, roof. All good things, solid, needed  and pro active, but not exactly exciting. It would appear that the neighbors across the street are on the same path.

2. All, most likely, more welcome than having the entire front yard and drive way ripped up to have a new sewer line installed, when your house is only 13 years old.

3. It has been chilly up here in The Mitten. I think we are all longing for the delicious weather we had a couple of weeks ago. We are expecting rain today. That, coupled with the fact that I am cold and have been up since 4:30, gives me a sneaking suspicion that a nap could be in my future.

4. Tomorrow is the last day of tutoring for ABC’s in the D. Our gal Ja’Shayla has not been in over a month and my partner and I are very sad and a little worried. We know she has had some upheaval in her life. I am praying she comes tomorrow. I hope she can come back next year.

5. What if she doesn’t come back next year? What if I get a new child and they don’t like me? What if they have learning problems and I can’t help them? Whoa Nelly, let us cross those bridges when we come to them.

6. I need to remember that if I DO get a new child, God will have hand picked them for me. And there will be a reason we are together….so, breathe deep and relax.

7. I was bummed Heejun went home on American Idol last night. he had a really good voice. But that’s the problem this year, they almost ALL have really good voices.

8. Heavens to mergatroid, I do not have a lot to share today!

9. Who said “heavens to mergatroid”?

10. Was it:

A.  Yogi Bear

    B. Snagglepuss

      C. Tom Terrific

Have a fun weekend!

Gladys Kravitz, In The House

When I came home from BSF yesterday, I noticed this in our neighbor’s driveway.

An outhouse. A port-o-pot. A john.

I am not complaining mind you. These good people had to view and endure the eyesore of our years long Sewer Debacle.007

What are they getting done? Is it something fun, like a long sought after home improvement? Or something not fun like a costly, should have never happened, I despise my builder, Sewer Debacle?

I am is consumed by curiosity. Or just nosey. Take your pick.

There is a truck with a trailer out there this morning and both Honey and I are Gladys Kravitz-ing all over the place.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hi Guys, thanks for stopping by and as always, thank you to Joyce for gathering us together to chat.

1. What’s the last job you did that required elbow grease?

Cleaning our shower. One of my least favorite tasks. Who knew something could get so dirty while getting you clean?

2. March Madness, aka the men’s Division I basketball championship, is nearing an end. What sort of ‘madness’ has your house seen this month?

No madness here that I can think of. Sometimes The Hectic visits, but it has been blessedly absent lately.

3. What’s your favorite shop for browsing?

Browsing as in not buying? I don’t particularly enjoy that kind of shopping. If I’m looking, I might buy, and if I’m not looking to buy, I don’t shop. I guess I’ll say Homegoods because I occasionally make a chai run in there and take a quick look-see without buying. But I would buy if I saw something worthy!

4. Is there ever a time when giving up makes sense?

Oh, lots of times! I like that saying that goes something like “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”. There are times when you need to persevere, especially in a challenging, stretching, growing type of situation. Then there are the folks that are just perfectionists and can.not. admit defeat under any circumstance. I think that can be pride and it’s not attractive. Sometimes I think God wants you to admit you can’t do it in your own strength. He might come along and do it for you, but He might not. Prayer can help you decide how to pick which hills to die on.
5. What’s a song you love that contains the name of a city, state or country in its title?

The only one I can think of is Georgia On My Mind.  My Grandmother’s name was Georgia, and she is often on my mind.
6. When did you first begin using a computer?

We bought a family computer the first Christmas we lived in this house, so….1998. The kids had been using them at school, but Honey and I felt like we were learning a foreign language! As ignorant as I still sometimes feel, I was totally useless then! E-mail was hard, the internet was confusing, and we had dial up so it cut off at very inopportune moments.
7. Did you buy girl scout cookies this year? What’s your favorite?

I didn’t buy and I don’t think I was asked. Not complaining. We just don’t have that kind of stuff hanging around the house anymore. The kids don’t eat many sweets and that leaves Honey and I to make sure they don’t go to waste. And we are very efficient in that area!. When I did partake, my favorite were Samoa’s and thin mint. Honey is always partial to peanut butter.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I mentioned in my post yesterday that our DVR threw me under the bus and didn’t record one of my favorite shows last Friday, “Who Do You Think You Are? Ug, I was SO disappointed and mentioned it between one and ten times.

THEN, Mrs. Schmenkman’s niece Kayte stepped in and saved the day! She left a comment suggesting I watch it on Hulu. I have heard of Hulu on other blogs, but never tried to access it for myself. Ab-Cat gave me a little tech support while I made a cup of chai, then I sat right down and watched the episode where Helen Hunt finds out that she is descended from very wealthy, influential people!

Thanks Kayte, it was a great suggestion!!!

Fifteen Lines

Hi Guys.

There is not a whole lot going on around here. There must not be much going on where you are either since only one person answered my question of what doing. Maybe we are all in shock from the 50 degree drop in the temperature. I was seriously regretting my decision to wear capris and sandals yesterday.

I think I will just give you a rundown of the mostly inconsequential doings over here. It’s all I have to offer and I do apologize for the unoriginality.

1. I spent a good portion of the weekend lamenting that the DVR inexplicably did not record Who Do You Think You Are? It was a NEW episode and everything. Days were shaded with my unhappiness. DVR, why you do me like that? Really, who do you think YOU are???

2. We have rectified the problem, and it will HOPEFULLY never happen again.

3. We also discovered another genealogy program on PBS called Finding You Roots With Henry Lewis Gates Jr. Abby added that one to the record list as well. Let us hope the next weekend will be happier, shall we?

4. Why am I so interested in the genealogy?

5. Our taxes are done! And they were $300 dollars cheaper!!! Honey was super happy.

6. Yesterday was a glorious looking day, but it was C.O.L.D. The cherry is weeping most attractively.

Brad the Pear is most handsome, if not somewhat musty smelling. It is an annoying smell.

7. It is a brisk 29 degrees this morning.

8. There will be no walking today. Not because of the weather. Keelyody is in Florida, and we are walking partners.

9. Mousey and I are contemplating deep tissue massages on our uncooperative backs. We carry a lot of stress behind us.

10. I am not sure what would be the best time for her to go, what with all that LAX business and all.

11. Honey and I are contemplating getting our bikes down from over the garage. I am not sure if I even remember seeing these said bikes before.

12. I know for certain that I am going to need a new bike seat. I want the Cadillac of bike seats.

13. I wish I would do more than contemplate losing about 15 pounds. In the words of my Mother, I need to get on the stick. Or the bike.

14. I’m hungry.

15. So you see my dilemma?

All right People, tell me one thing you have been doing. Seriously, it can’t be worse than the last 15 lines!

The Week That Was

We were a little occupied over here last week. Hence the light posting. You may or may not have noticed. It was a good week though, and this next 7 days loom mostly free of extra writing on the calendar.

I believe I may have mentioned that The Boy was home. So that was fun and contributed to the occupation. He said when he came home that he had no plans, but he managed to squeeze quite a bit of visiting into his break.

We went to The Value World to make good use of a 50% off coo-pin we had. The Grandpa accompanied us, because he is now a devotee of The World. He bought a jacket that looked very nice on his bad self. The Boy found a plethora of t-shirts, sweat shirts, and some ties with animals on them. Almost all of his shirts had something to do with The Mitten. The Tiger’s, Piston’s, fishing. He said he had to represent when he was in Chicago.

This was my lone purchase.

I am willing to share it with The Ab-Cat if she is willing to wear it. She likes the Eagle from America. A half off bargain at $4.30. Doesn’t look like it has ever been worn.

The Boy spent some quality time with his best girl, Halle Berry. I guess his love for the felines is a source of amusement amongst his friends at Moody.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I think it has made him a more gentle Boy.

When I took him to catch The Megabus in Ann Arbor, I noticed that Halle had sent him off with several pieces of herself. At our house, no outfit is complete without cat fur.

Mousey and I were wasting some time waiting for everyone to get it together so we could all go for The Boy’s final Coney Island run before heading back to The Windy City. Also known as the city without Coney Islands.

This is the reason we cannot get rid of our big, high top conversion van. The Ab-Cat’s little Freestar is fine for tooling around town with all three jam packed in the back. But it can get bothersome for any prolonged length of time.

Mostly bothersome for Abby.

Those other two are known bother-ers. They get that gene from their Father.

I was glad to catch up with The Boy and hear more about his new life as a college student in a big city. The first thing he said was it was weird to not see buildings out the window. We are even more convinced that Moody is the best place for him to be. God has a plan for his life and we are eager to watch it unfold.

That’s that, how about you?

As my Aunt Adalene always asked, “Well Kelly, what do you know ?” Do tell!

Potent Quotable-In Memoriam

Very often people come to me and say: “Mr. Moody, do you think we shall know each other in Heaven?” Very often it is a mother who has lost a dear child, and who wishes to see it again. Sometimes it is a child who has lost a mother, a father; and who wants to recognize them in Heaven. There is a verse in Scripture in answer to this, and that is: “We shall be satisfied” (Psalm 17:15). It is all I want to know. My brother who went up there the other day I shall see, because I shall be satisfied. We will see all those we loved on Earth up there, and if we loved them here, we will love them ten thousand times more when we meet them there.–Dwight L. Moody

“Some day you will read in the papers that D.L. Moody, of East Northfield, is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now. I shall have gone up higher, that is all; out of this old clay tenement into a house that is immortal, a body that death cannot touch.”— Dwight L. Moody

  1. God be with you till we meet again;
By His counsels guide, uphold you,
    With His sheep in love enfold you;
God be with you till we meet again.

    • Till we meet, till we meet,
      Till we meet at Jesus’ feet;
Till we meet, till we meet,
God be with you till we meet again.
  2. God be with you till we meet again!
‘Neath His wings protecting hide you,
    Daily manna still provide you;
God be with you till we meet again!
  3. God be with you till we meet again!
When life’s perils thick confound you,
    Put His arms unfailing round you;
God be with you till we meet again!
  4. God be with you till we meet again!
Keep love’s banner floating o’er you,
    Smite death’s threatening wave before you;
God be with you till we meet again!

Adalene’s daughter Joyce, her husband Doug and their sons Dan, Joe and Jeremy. Her legacy.

The best we can hope for in this life is a knothole peek at the shining realities ahead. Yet a glimpse is enough. It’s enough to convince our hearts that whatever sufferings and sorrows currently assail us aren’t worthy of comparison to that which waits over the horizon. Joni Eareckson Tada

Capri “Shaq” Kel flanked by her other daughter Vickie, and Joyce, along with more Girl Cousins, Robin and Kay.

It was a wonderful day to pay tribute to a woman who has meant so much to so many.

The most mentioned things? Her love of the Lord, her kindness, the fine and loving family who so faithfully cared for her, her good humor and spunk even when times were difficult, her positive attitude, her love of crosswords and a good game of Scrabble.

Until we meet again.

The Naked Chef and Go Cats GO!

We are having a good week. Weather and otherwise.  There has been enjoying being with Our Boy and cooking with the almost famous, Naked Chef.

Nah, he had pants on. He always ruins his shirt, so he just took it off since we had to go somewhere after dinner.

We had to go to Mousey’s first LAX game of the season! Go Cats!!! She is once again number 32.

What a difference in this season and her games last season. Like about 50 degrees of difference! We froze our buns off last year. It contributed to The Boy’s decision to wear longer socks. They practiced in the snow last year while this years temperature was 81.

She missed several days of practice last week due to sickness, so she stood on the side lines most of the game.

Chatting and laughing and cheering her team mates on.

She played the last 5 minutes. They lost 11 to 18, but it was a good effort. They played the Ann Arbor River Rats, who were very good, and she said they were speedy and ginormous Amazon women. The girl she guarded was nice, she didn’t trash talk her, always a good thing.

There are many more games coming down the pike. Let’s hope the weather holds. GO CATS!!!!

Our Boy is HOME! I was SO happy to hug his neck!!!!!!!

I did not even have to pick him up, he was hand delivered by MalPal, bless her little heart!

We have been talking. And laughing. Then we talked and laughed. I spent much time just looking at him. He said it seemed so weird to be home and had we changed things???

The Ab-Cat had school and Mousey had LAX so we decided to hold off on the spaghetti and garlic bread dinner and go out. We figured there was some place he had a hankering to hit up. Oh he did. He wanted a Coney dog. Two. Loaded.

I did not realize that Coney’s were not nationally available. Did you know that? An formal poll, calling all of you non Mitten residents, do you have Coney Islands???

The Subject stopped by after work and joined us. I can’t say for sure if his hankering was as strong. He says the Moody food is not that bad, in direct contrast to The Boy, who insists that it is.

It was good to see those two knuckleheads together again.

So he is home, has had a Coney, gotten his haircut (oh.my.word.) visited his jr. high small group leader, whom he dearly loves, and almost had both ears talked off. And we get to do it all over again today! Thank you Lord for breaks from college.

Really big, long, contented, sigh.

This Weekend

We had a glorious weather weekend! I am getting a little bit essited that spring is really here. Of course the smack down could be just around the corner.

Mousey and her lacrosse team are loving not practicing in the slicing wind, biting cold, and blowing snow. Speaking of Mousey and LAX, she is walking around like an old, old man. She had no idea she was so out of shape. Her leg and buttockal regions are complaining. Mightily.

I helped her take the garbage out last night and she commented I was walking too fast. She needs help getting off the couch, and other seats.

We washed all of our filthy piglet cars this weekend. Honey gave Juanita a good, thorough cleaning, and we put our parental support LAX sticker on her. We are proud of our little LAX-Bro.

We ate out an inordinate amount of time this weekend. Szechuan Middle Eastern and Bennigan’s. Pretty good dietary choices, except that last one there. I’m pretty sure the pretzel roll the burger was on was not the best choice, but it was good!

I have killed 2 spiders in the house this morning. I am live and let live, but not in the house.

We made spaghetti sauce! Or Red Gravy. Or Liquid Gold. It smelled scrumtrulescent!

One of The Boy’s requested dinners. We shall feast tonight!

The Boy is coming home this afternoon!!!!!!! I will pick him up somewhere at sometime in Ann Arbor. I guess I should call him and do a MapQuest.

I can’t wait to hug his neck!

Good Monday to you all.

It’s spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!  ~Mark Twain

No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.  ~Hal Borland

In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours.  ~Mark Twain
