We are heading back to the Virginia posts after the break for prom. I believe I may have mentioned that Mrs. Schmenkman loves almost all of God’s furry creatures. She is a certified rehabber (is that a word?) and rescues, raises, and releases whatever comes her way. This spring she found herself mothering a baby squirrel, Tinklebelle.

I guess after a spell the babies get strange and no longer claim the humans as their mama’s. She seems to be a special squirrel because she still loves Schmenky.

She is also quite the poser. She seemed wary of me, but not afraid.

A couple times a day Schmenk walks through her yard down to the potting area in her backyard where she kept the release cage. I guess that’s how you release a squirrel back into the wild, leave the cage door open so they can be in there if they want. That is the cage behind her.

She walks down there calling her name and the squirrel scampers out from wherever she was. Up in the trees, down the hill, on top of the potting shed.

She gets a handful of walnuts for a treat.

And she is all over Schmenky like white on rice.

She is so cute!

Sometimes she would go and bury them for later. She is an excellent bury-ier. She even tamps it down to bury more efficiently.

She hung around even when she was finished eating.

I think she is a ham-bone.

Or at least a rare squirrel model.
