Turtle Tale

I believe I mentioned that Abby was in a car accident a couple weeks ago. She was fine, but her van was broken. It has been in the shop so we have been driving her to her new job at the same place she has interned the last two summers. Yea new job!

I had to work on Tuesday, so Honey and Mousey went and picked her up from work. While on the long drive into the building, Honey stopped and Mousey got out to rescue a softball sized turtle from certain death. She picked it up and gently put it in the grass.

The next day I had to go to the podiatrist, because I have problematic pods, so Honey once again came to the rescue. While waiting for Abby to come out of the building, he was texting this sad tale to Mousey .

Honey: Small turtle on road into Abby’s work…it must have been turtle suicide.

Mousey: There’s really no other explanation. Poor fellow.

Honey: Must have been depressed, couldn’t keep up with his girlfriend.

Mousey: Or work fired him, Abby probably replaced him.

Honey": Maybe the turtle loved Abby, so he kept looking for her car and didn’t see it, he must have thought something happened to her. Goodbye cruel world.

Mousey: So many possibilities but we will never know because the weight of the world was too heavy on him.

Honey: Shell crushing…turtle love forever!

Mousey: So turtle soup for dinner tonight?

Honey: Sorry, just had turtle sushi, nothing left.

Mousey: You don’t love me at all.

Silly old bears!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hey Guys!

Thanks to Joyce for her efforts to get us all on the same page every week!

1. Americans will celebrate Labor Day this coming weekend. Do you know what we’re actually celebrating? (without consulting your friends Google or wikipedia, ahem) What’s a project you’re currently ‘laboring‘ over?

We have finally finished the backyard project we were working on for two years, so HALELUJAH for that!

I have a project to start. We are going to redo Abby’s bedroom and bathroom. There is painting to do and new things to put up, a new counter in the bath, curtains and blinds. It should probably take me another two years!

2. Labor Day also signals the unofficial end of summer for most of us…what summer food will you miss the most? If you’re in the southern hemisphere feel free to substitute winter for summer.

Probably cherries.

3. A well known proverb states, ‘It’s easier to seek forgiveness than ask permission.’ Your thoughts?

I have heard this saying before but I have to say it seems wrong to me. When you go in with that attitude, it suggests that you probably know you are doing something you should not, and therefore should refrain. Just my thought.

4. Food critic, film critic, book critic, art critic….which hat would you most like to wear?

The book critic hat sounds most appealing.

5. When you were a kid, who (besides your parents) was your favorite adult?

Probably my Grandma Georgia, she was a fun, loving, wise gal.

6. The astronaut, Neil Armstrong, passed away last week. He was regarded as a hero by many generations of people all around the world. Do we still have modern day heroes? What makes someone a hero?

I think we have heroes, but they may not be the ones our culture considers a hero. I think heroes are always someone who does something with honor, integrity and a moral backbone, something for the good of mankind. Just because you are successful, famous or wealthy doesn’t mean you are a hero. How you conduct your life is important. A hero makes someone look up to them for the right reasons. Otherwise they are just notorious.

7. I never get tired of __________________.

A kiss from Honey, a hug from our kids, a snuggle from the kitties, God’s forgiveness and grace.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Oh.My.Word. How did I get so old?

Thanks for stopping by!

Moody Faces

Hi Guys, that was a nice break!

Hows about a list?

The Boy invited several of his Moody friends to come and visit over the summer. Some came for a couple days, some came for a lot of days. One came twice. Some live here, and now they live there.

1. We had a fine visit with The Boy’s girlfriend, The Dane. She wins the award for coming the furthest.

She is as loverly on the inside as she is on the outside, and The Boy is thoroughly smitten.

She has been gone for 3 days now and we are left with memories of her kindness, a really sweet thank you note, and the faint lingering of her pleasant perfume. Every now and then someone says, “I smell The Dane"!”

Come again soon, Dear.

2. Kendell was the first visitor of the summer. He came the weekend of Mousey’s high school graduation and was supposed to leave a couple days later. Unfortunately, he missed his flight and had to endure our company a few days longer before he took the train back to Chicago. He is a wonderful young man who was so easy and fun to talk to.

We had actually met him the day we dropped The Boy off at Moody last January. He was one of the guys who helped the new students move into the dorms. He has a rather distinctive laugh and an engaging personality, and we remembered him. After that, whenever The Boy mentioned him he said “ you remember my friend Kendell, the hearty laugher?”

We loved having him here but I feel we did not feed him enough. Come back Kendell, let us feed you better!

3.  We had Critcher twice. He liked it well enough the first time to be a repeat customer!

He and The Boy are in the throes of a bromance.

Really, they are ridiculous. They wanted this awkward library shot, like the Olan Mills pictures in the 70s and 80s.

4. He returned a couple weeks ago to see The Dane, drop off some of his stuff for us to bring to Chicago, and to cook us dinner. He is thoughtful like that. Chicken Marsala, and then a special tomato cream sauce for those not fans of the mushroom.

Everyone enjoyed!

The Boy took him to Ann Arbor very early to catch the Megabus back to Chicago so he could start work early. I am happy to say he caught the bus. I heard, after the fact, that there was some hectic before he actually caught the bus. I am glad I was not privy to that until after.

Look how bright eyed and bushy tailed he was!

Come again, Critch!

5. There is a new face at Moody this year! Mousey’s buddy Beatrix Potter is there now as well. Mousey is going to miss her enormously.

Beatrix has an advantage though, she knows several folks there already! There was talk among The Boy and his friends of introducing her to a young man who is looking for a young lady with the “love of Christ in her eyes”. That would be our Miss B!

Come again, Girly!

6. I did not have a recent picture, but The Subject is there as well. Here he is being all gossipy at the Detroit Institute of Arts. We will miss him as well, he worked full time this summer and was therefore not around much. He has a special place in our hearts, even though he continually tries to get us to believe preposterous things. Come again Antonino!

7. We loaded our big, high top conversion van up with The Boy’s stuff, some of The Dane’s stuff and a goodish amount of Critcher’s stuff, and drove on over/down to Chi town. We deposited our precious cargo and then Honey and I headed on back to The Mitten. It was a LOT easier this time, having already had the ugly cry at home.

8. We have already learned that life goes on when we are apart.

9. But I so look forward to when we can be together.

10. God be with you ‘til we meet again.

Today our Mousey Girl turns eighteen. I don’t really see how this is possible, but she assures me it is true. I do recall a bit of commotion on August 27, 1994, around 8:57 a.m.

It was a good day. A kiss on the cheek from God kind of day.

A precious peanut.

Even with cake face.

Ab-Cat and The Boy called her Miss Mousey, and treated her like a treasured friend.

A joy.

A darling.

Our last baby.

A hard worker.

Fun to be around.

A mama wannabe.

Our creative…

always trying new things….

much beloved…

loverly, young lady.

Happy Birthday Miss Muggins Q Mouse. We are glad you are ours!

They leave for Moody next Sunday. I will be taking a break from blobbing this week to savor the last spoonful of their company. Enjoy your week, I know I will.

Catch Up and See You Later!

Hi Guys!

We have been in the midst of a Hectic. How about a list?

1. Mousey got her wisdom teeth out last Tuesday. She came through with flying colors except for the allergic reaction to the penicillin. Her nurse and oral surgeon were all over it and they watched her like a hawk until the Benadryl kicked in and her pink puffy face and hive-y chest returned to normal. We will have to mention this new development to her physician. Other than that she was mainly concerned about having me put some chap stick on her lips, showing me how the light looked like waves in an ocean, and wanting me to find out if she could have smoothies with seeds. She was hilariously funny.

2. She could NOT have smoothies with seeds, in case you were wondering.

3. Honey and I have been cleaning. He shampooed the carpets, and I cleaned anything I came into contact with, and dad gum it, if there wasn’t always something more to clean!

4. Ab-Cat was in a 5 car accident on Friday. She was fine, fine, fine, but her car is broken a little. She was in the middle of a car sandwich and her back end is scrunched. This has affected the opening of her doors and her muffler. You can hear her a comin’ round the mountain, that’s for sure. It will have to have a complete check up very soon. I discovered yesterday that I could hardly put gas in the tank. The pump kept shutting off like it was full, so there is something wrong there. The wheelchair ramp and the mechanical doors are very touchy, so that needs to get looked at as well. We are just thankful that she was fine. I think everyone involved was fine, but Honey said about 3 of those cars were totaled.

5. We had a good time at our annual Caregroup summer get together, even though not everyone was able to make it. It was also unseasonably cool that day.

6. I was out there in my sleeveless shirt, NOT complaining.

7. My coleus are BEAUTIMOUS this year. I cannot say it enough!

Not a coleus, but I am loving the new shelf thingy.

8. Honey plugged in his fountain.

9. It’s a Day-go thing.

10. The Boy, Ab-Cat and I went and say The Bourne Legacy yesterday.

11. It was very good. I don’t know what the critics are complaining about.

12. Jeremy Renner is not Matt Damon, but he has his own charm.

13. I am heading out tomorrow with the Caregroup Gals for our annual Girls Getaway to South Haven on Lake Michigan. We are having a big group this year! It is always a fun time.

14. The Boy is beyond excited, his “friend” The Dane is coming to visit on Tuesday from Denmark. Hence her name.

We are all looking forward to making her real acquaintance, as opposed to her skype acquaintance. I will have to wait to meet her, I won’t be back home until Thursday. BOO. Nor will I be blobbing. I am taking the Netbook, so that could change, but it’s a very slim chance. There is much to do over yonder in The Mitten!

15. Good GRIEF, I am glad the Olympics are over! We thoroughly enjoyed them but. holy COW, they took up a lot of time! Even on DVR!

Your thoughts on the closing ceremonies?

Have a good week!
