The Escape

Hello Folks, greetings from Estero, Florida!

Honey and I left the cold, blustery Mitten yesterday at around noon and arrived in sunny, warm, breezy Fort Myers around four. Ah, the wonders of flight! I don’t know if we could ever make that 22 hour drive again.

Look how happy we are to be flying!

Of course, getting out of Dodge was not without its trials. What would a NutHatch vacation be without a little pre trip drama?

We had been having some computer trouble for the last couple of days. Those who know us well all just said in unison, “when are you not having computer troubles???”

But these troubles were not our usual sort of troubles, they did not only affect our own personal dinosaur computer, they affected all internet access in our home. Ab-Cats computer, Mousey’s laptop and iPod, AND Netflix. Clearly, there was something else going on. Honey discovered that our router was the culprit, but of course, there was not time to delve into the nitty gritty of why the router had quit us. It might need a new cord or some other type of fiddling, but it wasn’t going to happen in the next hour.

So Honey plugged our dinosaur computer directly into some box and it worked. We left them with that sad solution. I have already received several sad texts lamenting how S.L.O.W. our computer is.

While Honey was working on that problem, I went to get ready. It was then that I discovered that we had no hot water. I know, you think I’m spoofing you. I am not spoofing you.

I wasn’t sure quite when to break this latest tidbit of news to Honey. While he was on the floor behind the computer desk? When he was on the phone to Wowway? When he was explaining to the Girls what to do if this and that happened? I was gearing up for a Hurricane Sandy type explosion of words.

I finally just gently suggested that he might want to go downstairs and take a gander at the water heater and wave his magic wand. He and Mousey went down and he showed her what to do, as he has been babying this thing for a couple of months now. I KNOW, we should just get a new one, but it’s complicated.

We could leave the Girls with limited internet for a while, but no hot showers is just mean.

After a half hour, Honey took a lukewarm shower and we quit Michigan.

So far, except for the slow internet whining, we have not heard of any more breakage.

Because of Hurricane Sandy, aka Frankenstorm, there had been many disrupted flights, even in Michigan. Our flight was full, full, FULL, and they announced just before boarding that we had a different plane than we were supposed to have, and therefore seats had been changed, we were late in departing, and all manner of chaos should not ensue.

I heard no complaining or bitter words from anyone, except from a large, British man walking down the aisle. All because he had to check his carry on bag. For free. He told every flight attendant in the vicinity that he was not happy about this ridiculous development, and one unfortunate soul twice. He then proceeded to plop into the seat next to me. Honey told me later that he knew he was going to sit next to us, just knew it.

I thought I was in for an earful, but mercifully he never said one word to me the entire trip and once he sat down he promptly fell asleep. He slept like a stone until the attendant came by with the beverages, then he unleashed another round of complaining on the poor hapless fellow, who already had the misfortune to have heard it from him before. Bless his heart, real good.

After that, Mr Crabapple, or Stinky McStinkerson as I thought of him, kept himself busy monkeying with his phone and picking his nose. OH YES HE DID.

Then we landed, left, checked into our hotel and had chicken potpie for dinner. Ahhhh, DA-licious! All was forgotten!

The End.

Have a nice Thursday!

    Your computer is so awful.
Once you go Mac, you don’t go back.
