Potent Quotable

This is funny, pretend he is saying it to her as well!

1 Corinthians 10:31
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (ESV)

Colossians 3:23
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” (NIV)

Psalm147:11 “The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.” (KJV)

Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” (NKJV)

The Weekly Sy and an Apology to Rae Babe

***Breaking News**** Pertaining to the fill in the blank question ‘I’m gonna jerk a —- in your tail’, Rae Babe got the answer right too!! She said knot, but posted it accidentally on the purse post!!!!! Sorry about that Rae Babe!!!

On to the grandcat. The Boy and The Dane have both sent many pictures since they went home last week. I have enough for weeks to come, and they are so cute!

Sy was evidently in kitty heaven when they finally came back to The Windy City.

They missed him.

So he needed to be bothered. Three weeks of bothering.

Pretty sure he didn’t mind.

Have a good holiday weekend, summers over.

The Last F-List of August

It’s Friday again, every time I turn around. How about a list for the last full week of summer?

I forgot to tell you the answer to the question on the South Haven post. The question was I’m gonna jerk a —- in your tail. Friend Warren may have gotten it right, unless his answer really wasn’t a typo. He said ‘know’, but the answer was knot. What say you, Warren?

Mousey went back to school last week, so her summer was already officially over.

She said physics is hard.

I have to take a picture of her in her new birthday present! It’s a Speedo that looks like it has mermaid scales! She said she thought the children she teaches swim lessons to would like it. SO cute!!!!!

She has a sore throat. That is not nice on your birthday week.

The Boy and The Dane have also started back to Moody. He said Greek is already kicking his tail.

The Boy’s platelet count went from 490,000 to 70,000 in a week. It could be safe to say that he is not in the 90th percentage of folk for whom the Promacta works.

Unfortunately, this has always been the case for him. His ITP is a particularly stubborn brand.

He said he is looking colorful with petechaie and bruises.

He is in the process of getting a new doctor at a new hospital near his residence in Chicago. Please pray that God steers him to a wise doctor.

The Ab-Cat received lots of good feedback on her ACL Icebucket Challenge! What a fun way to bring attention and money to a deadly serious thing.

The first 2015 Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line yesterday!!!!!!!!

This is the reason Honey has been working like a D.O.G.

WOO HOO for Honey and the entire plant!!!!!!!

Not that anything is going to change just yet.

Did you know the Mustang has been in continuous production production for 50 years?

50 years is about how long it feels like Honey has been working like a D.O.G.!!!

I recently found some pictures I took from May. I barely remember taking them. Here you go.

This is how my family reacts when I try and take a commemorative picture. Uncooperative in the smile department. They look like crabs, don’t they?

Here we have the last day of BSF at the beginning of May. I am Johnny on the spot with these! Our fearless, previous teaching leader, Heifer Lynn! We have BSF leaders workshop next Wednesday, and for the first time in 7 years, she will not be there. Extreme sad face. I will miss you, love, Heifer Ann.

This was our administration team at BSF. We had a very fun year!! I am so sorry about the weird cropping of the picture, I realized that we all have our nametags on and that goes against the privacy clause I have on the blob.

Here we have Jip The Farm Dog, Capri K, Dear Sandra and Marilyn, whose blob name needs to be something about the fact she is not drinking the Kool Aid! All loverly ladies!

Did I ever mention who our NEW teaching leader actually was? Well, drum roll please, it’s JIP THE FARM DOG!!!!!

Girlfriend is highly qualified for the job, having been around BSF for the majority of her life. She was in the program growing up. Her mother is a former teaching leader, so she has first hand knowledge of living the life. She has been a children’s leader and a class administrator for many, many years. She had big plans for this coming year, her first with both of her sons away at college. But God has chosen to stretch her like a pretzel and she is being obedient to His call.

I am confident she is up to the task.

All I know is, if she can train me, 30 or so other women should be a piece of cake!!!! I am looking forward to a wonderful new year!

Why is it when you walk near your pets they move out of your way in the exact wrong direction?? Right into your path and almost lay you flat???

Our Lucy excels in this skill.

Our Halle Berry never moves, which is good, you just walk around her. None of those split second, herky jerky decisions on which way to go. Thank you Halle Baby.

Mia can go either way.

I made this burrito bowl for dinner last night. Except not in the crock pot. Long story, but I will next time. I liked it. I will have to serve the black beans separately in the future if I want Mousey to partake.

I was cleaning out a cupboard and found some Glade plug in thingy in a citrus scent. I plugged it in the coat room where the litter boxes are, because that seemed appropriate. ***Disclaimer*** I never smell the litter boxes in our home, they get changed regularly, but it seemed like a good spot. Thank you for your time.

The citrus smell is so strong, I don’t think it’s going to make it.

This is causing me to remember a conversation we had in South Haven where we talked about this very subject. I seem to recall someone saying they are not good for you. Can anyone help me out here?

I’m pretty sure the cats don’t care about either of the smells.

Speaking of the felines. There was a fly in the house yesterday and OH.MY.WORD., I did not know those portly older women could move so quickly! That’s a lot of girth units moving at a high rate of speed!

Flies are the best present in the world for cats. I wish I felt that way.

Enjoy your weekend. I’ll be back tomorrow with The Weekly Sy. They sent some good ones!

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

The Ab-Cat has been watching a lot of the challenges on youtube and Facebook. She shows me the ones she thinks are especially good! So far, she liked the Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson videos best. When AwesomeAutumn nominated her, she decided just how she wanted it to go down.

Honey and I were around to lend a hand. This is where it would be nice to be able to put the video on the blob. Yeah, no comprendo.

She gave her little speech, nominated some people…

…got doused with ice water!!!!!

And then dumped in the pool!!!!

Then Honey squirted her with the hose!!! She even stayed in and swam for a while because she hasn’t been in the pool all year and forgot how nice it was!

She said it turned out exactly how she wanted it too. So glad attention is being focused on this terrible disease.

It was a lot of fun! You GO Girl!!!!!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hi Guys! I am late to the party, but glad to finally be here! Thank you to Joyce for faithfully giving us something to discuss each week!

1. As August draws to a close, share what’s been your favorite weekend of the entire summer?
I can’t even remember the weekends, this question is too hard! We had fun at our cousin’s wedding on May 31, I’ll say that.

2. Labor Day is marked in the US of A on Monday, September 1st.  What paying job have you held that you’ve loved the most? Liked the least?

Hmmmm, another hard one! I have enjoyed aspects of all my jobs, and never really hated any of them. I loved the people at the bank, but never liked it when they were trying to get us to sell services. That’s hard to do at the drive through window!

I liked the people and the work at the salon. That’s where I met Mrs. Schmenkman, and that has certainly been a kiss on the cheek from God, some 27 years later!

I enjoyed waitressing and the communities that went with that. I know people complain about waitressing but I rather liked it. You go in, are busy, do your work, and leave with money in your pocket. Worked for me!

I guess I will say I liked the salon best and Burger King the least.
3. Does the new school year start before or after Labor Day where you live? When do you think it should begin? There is much discussion now about older students having later start times to their school day…your thoughts?

When I was growing up, schools in Michigan always started after Labor Day. When our kids started school, they had changed it to the end of August. At some point towards the end of our time at public school they again changed it back to after Labor Day.I don’t personally have a preference but it feels better to start in September. School starts in the fall. The end of August doesn’t feel like fall.

I have heard the debate about having highschoolers start class later. I know our kids hated catching the bus at 6:30 and the 7:10 start time. Kids that age don’t seem to do their best thinking that early. I have heard the argument that the reason high school starts first was so they could get out first and then be home when the younger kids got out. That never made a ton of sense to me because I didn’t know that many families who had their kids ages strung out that far apart for that to be a necessary thing.

Most kids stay up later, so It would seem that a later start time might be something to look into. Unless they work, it’s not so important to have them back home by 2:30 with the whole rest of the day stretched out before them. I think it’s a worthwhile conversation.

4. What’s something you’ve worked at recently that could be deemed a ‘labor of love’?

I believe I have mentioned that Honey has been working like a dog this entire summer. In an effort to help him out and take something off his already full, around the house, plate, I offered to cut the grass every week. I have cut the grass in the past, never regularly and never often, but it is not a first time activity. I don’t really mind the chore, it is kind of like cutting hair, but as I have also mentioned, I am not a fan of the heat at this faze in my life.

I try and mow early, when it’s cool, and I mow weekly because I am never going to want to bag it! I mainly use the time to pray for my neighbors and whatever concerns I have that day. I have made several observations though.

It’s way easier to cut green grass than dry grass because you can find your lines.

It helps if I think it counts as exercise. I don’t know why, but it does.

I have to blow my nose at the exact same point every week. That’s weird.

I need to keep my mouth closed when cutting. All that exhaust tastes yuckky.

Swing sets are of the devil.

When I am feeling so hot I might combust, it helps if I remind myself that I can jump in the pool after. Just knowing gives me strength.

When I am annoyed that Honey wants me to make 9 rows in the field on the other side of the hedge, as opposed to the 5 rows I feel are necessary, I remind myself that I need to do it his way because the whole point of the project is to take the load off HIM, not make him want to fire up the lawnmower just to cut those last 4 rows. I

It’s a labor of love after all.
5.Which of the following work idioms can you most relate to right now…’A woman’s work is never done.’, ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.’ ‘Many hands make light work.

I am going to claim ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.’  for Honey. His schedule has been hard on him and I know he misses doing fun things with us. I don’t like to do the fun things without him, it makes me sad!
6. Crab or lobster or thanks, but no thanks? Favorite way to have your choice prepared?

Easy one, no thanks.
7. Albert Einstein is quoted as saying, ‘Three rules of work: Out of clutter find simplicity; From discord find harmony; In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.’ Which of the three do you consider to be the most important? Share one of your own ‘rules of work’.

I guess ‘In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity’. Just try and not waste the suffering. Make some dang lemonade.

My work philosophy would be just do it and get it over with, it certainly won’t do itself!. Do I take my own advice all the time? Of course not.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Today is Mousey’s twentieth birthday!!! I know I say it every year, but goodness, HOW CAN THIS BE???

It seemed like yesterday that she graduated from high school. This is now her last semester before she enters training for radiography.

In some ways she seems so grown up, but she is still our girl.

She loves her friends, sisters Chip and Dale. There were no less than 10,000 pictures on her facebook to choose from!

The sisters are 5 years apart. The gap is closing.

Her favorite brother to laugh with.

She can be very brave in trying new things.

Is single minded in her desire to be a Mama. Goomba was good practice! Soooo big!!!

She is loved ‘to the moon and back’. That is a lot.

She knows a boatload about skin care. We frequently ask for her expertise.

On the left, being silly with Beatrix Potter and Button.

Loves her Pa.

And her Ma.

And kitties.

Happy birthday baby girl!

Just My Bag

We did a little shopping on our trip to South Haven. Of course we did.

One of our favorite little stores is called Just My Bag. They have cute purses, wallets, clothes and jewelry. I think all of us have bought something there at one time or another.

I have been on the hunt for a new winter pocketbook for most of the summer. Looked in stores and looked online. I have had very good luck with purses on ebay, so I had been spending a little time every day checking the newly listed for bags to put on my watch list, and time ending soonest pages to make sure I didn’t miss a prospect. I focused mainly on the Tiganello crossbody purses, because I like the look of that brand and they have the built in wallet feature that I have come to depend on.

I have mentioned before that I have a LOT of purse needs and purse related rules, so I am working within parameters people. Gone are the days when I change my purse with my shoes, or just pick a purse all willy nilly because I think it’s kind of cuteOh no. Purse buying is work and it takes patience. Even I think I am a pain in the rumpus.

This is my present purse, purchased on ebay a couple years ago. I am very careful to buy pretty much new bags, because once again, I am a pain. I have loved using it for the entire time!! It was a great buy! My only complaint was it didn’t have a built in wallet, causing me to use a long, slim, credit card holder with an attached change purse. Not my favorite, but it works. Well, it works until summertime. Then all heck breaks loose because there is not enough room for the slim wallet, the little camera I like to carry for blog-tography, and last but sure to joofer up the works, my sunglasses and their case.

I can get it zipped if I work at it very diligently, but how many times a day are you in and out of your purse? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Plus, you have to take everything out to get at the stuff underneath. More work than I care for to get at the Burt’s Bees, I can tell you that.

The Peanuts Champ was also in the market for a new pocketbook, having broken the zipper of her Tiganello on that very trip! What are the chances? We walked in and I am happy to say, both found success!

I think I remember seeing this brand in previous years. the tag said it was made from 20 recycled water bottles! Fancy that!!!

I loved the color and felt it would go nicely with the colors I usually wear.

It did not have a built in wallet feature, but it did have another slim credit card wallet.

With a zipper for money. All attached to a handy dandy tether to make it easier to find.

The reason that I agreed to this was, LOOK HOW MUCH ROOM IS IN THERE!!!!!

The camera AND sunglass case are already in and there is STILL room!

The salesgirl did a good job of telling me about the many satisfied customers she had talked to. She said her boss had owned one for years and had recently bought a new one only because she was tired of the color she had. Another customer said she had even thrown hers in the washing machine with great results.

One of my favorite things about this purse is how light it is. My silver purse was heavier with nothing in it! Honey will be thrilled, he often wants me to hold his keys and wallet and his glasses, and with my usual smallish purse, I could not be very accommodating.

The Peanuts Champ was pleased with her purchase also! Hers had plenty of room as well!

Our new bags!

We went back the next day to show the salesgirls and they took our picture for their instagram!! How fun, we are basically celebrities now!!!!

Two satisfied customers!

South Haven 2014

Hi Guys! It’s good to be back! Much fun was had on the 6th annual trip to Lake Michigan!

We all met at Three Good Kids house to load up her van. Every year we think we will never get it all in, but every year we do! Suitcases, tote bags, other bags, pillows, a rolled up mattress pad, coolers, beach chairs and us and our purses! There were also many water bottles, a roll of paper towels, other flotsam and a watermelon jammed in a perfect nook. We were loaded for bear.

loaded for bear

Thoroughly equipped, as for a demanding task or confrontation.

You are most welcome.

It was brought to my attention again this week that not all are familiar with the ins and ism’s that I was raised with. While playing a game of Taboo, I was trying to get my team to say the correct word, I offered up the expression “ I’m gonna jerk a _____ in your tail!”. They did not answer correctly. I will see if any of you can get the right answer in the comments!

From the left; The Oreo Mom, The Peanuts Champ, The Mayor, Three Good Kids, and our new friend, Shaq 2!! I was SO happy to have another tall gal to vacation with me and the shortest women I know!!!

We travelled across The Mitten uneventfully, but as soon as we arrived in South Haven the heavens unleashed. Torrential rain, flooding streets, downed branches and a strong desire to have a higher speed of windshield wipers, but Three Good Kids navigated the van like a pro. We arrived a little later than expected to a waning storm and no electricity. The power came on within the hour and all was well.

It’s a purty town with a cute downtown area, darling lake homes and a very nice beach.

I pictured a family of critters living in that hole!

We made it to a couple sunsets, and as in previous years, sailboats graced my pictures!

So lovely. Sigh.

There was a fellow who offered to take our picture. Picture a nerdy-ish Justin Long.

He was very nice and patient, taking our picture with multiple phones and cameras and even The Mayor’s iPad. I have to confess that he knew WAY more about my camera than I did. Who knew there was a sunset mode? Not me.

We decided to eat at the house more than we have in the past. We have not had much luck with the restaurants, for various reasons, so we cooked two dinners and had one grazers paradise at lunchtime. All were delicious and it was so successful I think it may be repeated next year.

All of the ladies in attendance are part of our monthly Birthday Club. There are more Clubbers that were not able to attend, but since we actually had a birthday girl present, we celebrated! It was fun to wish Shaqtoo a happy day with cupcakes bought stealthily in town earlier in the afternoon!

photo 2

Speaking of being in town, something funny happened when we were there shopping!!! As I was walking down the street I saw a couple that looked very familiar!!! Sure enough, on closer inspection, it was Schmenky’s, and Capri Patt and Deb’s nephew Ben and his wife JoanieK!!!! Fancy that!! I sure wish I had thought to take a picture of them to show y’all, because that was a moment to remember! Small world!

We spent a day at the beach, played games and cards, watched a couple movies, or tried to. I know I stayed up WAY later than my usual bedtime! Of course there was plenty of snacking and talking, funny things, solving world problem things, faith walk things and some tearful things.

It was time to travel back across The Mitten before we knew it. We headed to the beach for one last photo shoot until next summer.

We loaded the van up a little easier on the way home. Probably halfway home Three Good Kids said something had happened to the van! We limped to an exit and she called her husband. They had travel insurance for towing if you were under 100 miles from home, I think we were around 87 miles from home!!!!! Thank you LORD!

AAA sent a flatbed to tow the van.

We had lunch at McDonald’s and hung around at a truck stop until our ride came.

We managed to have fun and find some things to laugh about while waiting.

Here is our knight in shining armor! Mr. Three Good Kids came to our rescue!!!!!

Thankfully, their van was not horribly broken, as a matter of fact it was fixed before we all got back! Another huge thank you LORD!!!!!

Special thanks to The Peanuts Champ for being our travel planner extraordinaire!!!! We made some new memories this year!!! Until next year!

Birthday Club Takes it on the Road

Hi Guys, I am heading over to the other side of The Mitten with some of the gals from Birthday Club this morning. South Haven is a cute little town on Lake Michigan. We have been there quite a few times and I think this is our third or fourth time in the same house, which is our favorite!. It was listed for sale last year but I guess it didn’t sell, so we are back! We have some spots in town we always go to, but we are always game to try new things. All that to say, the blob will probably be out of commission this week.

We are travelling across the state in Three Good Kids van, loaded to the rafters with suitcases, food, water, movies, technological devices, beach gear, pillows and extra toilet paper. We are looking forward to much eating, talking, and laughing, all good things in my book!

Have a good week!
