The Weekend That Was

Good Monday to you.

Hope your weekend was good in all of the ways you needed it to be!

Ours, from my perspective, was nice and not jam packed. I know some people like jam packed, but I am not one of them.

Our run in with super storm Nemo was mostly a non event. Oh, we had snow, but it was plowed and gone by later in the day. They called a snow day at schools and we cancelled Caregroup, but I think we could have soldiered through. Honey had to go into work at 5 on Friday, that was the tipping factor in cancelling group. He is our facilitator. When he is gone, you get me reading questions from the back of the book, ending early and moving along to the snack and fellowship portion of the show.

The snow is mostly gone today. It is getting blustery out there though. Are we expecting something else? Just as soon as I mentioned it, it’s gone.

On Saturday, Honey woke up and said he wanted to go eat at a place we tried to visit over the holidays when The Boy and The Dane were here. It’s called

Located in Ferndale, Michigan. I am not sure if I have ever been to Ferndale, intentionally. I have been near it, because Ferndale is right next to Royal Oak, and the zoo is in Royal Oak. Also in Royal Oak is the Royal Oak Music Theater, where I spent many happy hours when I was much younger. All with my good friend Suzanne Suzanna Danna. We used to go and see Beatle’s movies there and saw many live acts too.

80s bands like Men at Work, (Who Can It Be Now? I Come From A Land Down Under))

Missing Persons, (Words, Destination Unknown, Walking in L.A.)

ABC (The Look of Love, Shoot That Poison Arrow to my heartttttttttt) We LOVED Martin Frye’s gold lame suit!

and The Thompson Twins! (Hold Me Now, Doctor Doctor, Lay Your Hands On Me) We loved Tom Bailey’s long ponytail!!!

Ah, good times.

You know what was not so classic in the 80s? Hair and clothing.

Ok, back to Ferndale. The reason Honey wanted to go to this place was they served poutine. My American spell check is telling me that is not a word, but it is a word in Canada, land of Honey’s birth.  Poutine is basically french fries with gravy and cheese curds. Honey and The Boy had some on their last fishing trip up in The Great White North and he had a hankering.

The place was good. It said on their menu, Life is short, eat good food. Or maybe it said, Life is short, eat real food. You get the idea. They are evidently known for their macaroni and cheese and banana pudding. We tried both. The banana pudding was a revelation, I must say. I had chicken pot pie and Honey had a very yummy burger, all very tasty. We stopped at a nearby cupcake shop and purchased some of those as well. We enjoy a good pupcake. Abby’s word, around 1991. A very nice evening indeed.

Ferndale is a very cute little town!

We also made an effort to clean out our dang DVR. You know how that can get away from you.

On Sunday, I read a book, read my BSF notes, started another book. Honey was taking a dedicated nap. Abby was doing whatever it is she does in her room and Mousey was at work.  Sounds boring, but I find it strangely rejuvenating.

This week marks my last appointment in the Temple Maintenance area. No more doctor appointments, physical therapy, procedures, or yearly things. Just me and my temple, alone for another year. Well, I still take the temple to the chiropractor. You can’t get away from all maintenance.

I am most excited for Thursday. I am getting another magic shot in my fake tennis elbow. The hurty elbow is real, the tennis part is bogus.

So, what have you been up to, or what are you going to be up to?

I believe I had tennis elbow before. And everyone knows that I do NOT play tennis either. I spent some time at MedSport, doing some arm exercising. I have since concluded that, depending on where the pain is, I had been sleeping with my arms bent tight, thus exerting the tendon area of one (more than the other) of my elbows. It seemed to hurt much more during the winter months (and that made sense to me, since i curl up more in cold weather). I now intentionally try to keep my arms straight or bent around ninety degrees when I sleep.
    Just my 2 cents.

Love the 80’s memories of the punk teller era. what about Depeche Mode? We have to talk about the “magic” shot…I broke down after 6 months and got one in my wrist…..better but not 100%. they want to give me a “booster” but I’m still scared! We made some GREAT butternut squash and kale soup this week-end.

During the 80s, it seemed like styles were silly. I look at some things now and they seem somewhat timeless but not the 80s…it was all dorky.

Loved the walk thru the 80’s bands : ) I know what putine is, and it is definitely a word. Spell check doesn’t know everything-ha. I think the weekend sounds excellent. I’m definitely a fan of reading-napping on a Sunday afternoon.

Donaldo lived in Ferndale and his mom used to call the shopping area “The Nine Mile.”
I have to have all my appointments yet-later in March. I have been packing for some fun in the sun (I hope).

Sounds like a relaxing weekend! I do not identify with 80’s music at all, a definite gap in my personal history of music appreciation.
