Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hey Y’All, thanks for stopping by! Head on over to Joyce’s and join the fun, there is always room for more!

1. April showers bring May flowers…what have you been showered with this month?

That reminds me of the old church song Showers of Blessings, an oldie but a goodie. Well, we have been showered with rain showers!

I am going to say I have been showered with restoration. I had a situation that was causing all manner of grief, worry and sleeplessness. A perfect storm of misunderstanding that watered seeds of sadness, anger, hurt feelings and mistrust. But God sent me the exact words to set me on the path of right thinking. This was in our BSF notes, just when I needed them. Do we not serve an on time God?

…Satan inserts thoughts, conclusions and misunderstandings in our minds about others. These can seem so true, proven and reasonable that we often do not take them to God. Instead we react according to what we imagine people are like. This begins a chain of events that leads to divisions and disasters in relationships. Abraham was wrong, perhaps you are wrong too. The remedy is to use the words of 2 Corinthians 10:5, taking every thought “captive to make it obedient to Christ.” Bringing these thoughts to God is the divine power that demolishes Satan’s mental strongholds, and God then transforms the Christian’s imaginations and misunderstandings before they move us into wrong action.

God used these words to give me pause, to realign my attitude, to consider that things were not exactly as I saw them to be. And then He graciously allowed open, honest discussion that brought resolution and healing. Restoration, it’s a beautiful word.
2. What is the nature of compassion?  Is it learned or innate?  Can compassion be learned?  If you’re a parent is this something you’ve purposely sought to instill in your children, and if so how?

I think this is a hard question. Honey is very compassionate by nature, and he has passed that gene down to all three of our children. I, on the other hand, do not think of myself as compassionate, and Honey jokingly calls me Hard Hearted Hannah. But the more I thought about it, and after a conversation with Honey, I decided that I can be compassionate. He said I am intolerant of stupidity, and judgmental about the drama people can create and call a real problem, and I agree. As a parent, I tried to encourage our children to think of others and to try and be helpful and caring.  I think I have learned over the years from Honey’s example. I can be fairly unobservant.
3. Do you prefer to watch romantic comedy or romantic drama…or are you rolling your eyes saying bring on the action flicks?
Probably romantic comedy, followed by an action flick. Romantic dramas usually seem a little self important.

4.  It’s April which means baseball season is officially upon us here in the US of A. Humphrey Bogart is quoted as saying "A hot dog at the ballgame beats roast beef at the Ritz." Agree or Disagree?
Disagree, I don’t do dogs.

5. What’s something in your community or city that needs fixing or improving?

Our roads are an abomination!!! The last few years have been terrible, our city has really dropped the ball. And I don’t want to hear about hard times and budget cuts. Everyone uses the roads, cut something else!
6. Share a song you enjoy that mentions flowers or a specific flower in its title.

Build Me Up Buttercup, ba-da-da!!!

7. April 22nd is Earth Day…do you believe there’s life on other planets?  That wasn’t the question you were expecting was it?

I was not expecting that! It is not a question I spend much time thinking about, but I am going to say that God made a HUGE universe up there and He might have another bunch of people somewhere. Probably NOT Klingons, Yoda and Vulcans though.
8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I had the best answer ever when Honey asked me if I had gotten the mail yesterday. It’s kind of a long story.

When I left to go walking with Keelyody yesterday morning, I noticed a couple pieces of something in the driveway. I was pretty sure the something had once been a living thing. When we walked by the house later, I took a quick gander and thought it was a bird head. We have a field behind us with owls and hawks and it is not uncommon to have dead things from time to time. On closer inspection after arriving home, it turned out to be a baby bunny head and there was sadness in the land. I mentioned it to both Girls so they wouldn’t run over it on their way out. I thought about getting it off the driveway, but then I didn’t, because EWWW, dead baby bunny.

After Honey woke up, hours later, I mentioned the murder victim in the driveway. He asked if I got rid of it and I gave him my well thought out answer;  I thought about getting it off the driveway, but then I didn’t. I then had to listen to him asking what was I waiting for, someone to run over it?

So I then went out with a shovel and scooped the bunny head and it’s leg up and took it back behind the hedge and committed it to the field.

When Honey was leaving for work last night he asked if I had gotten the mail when I was out. I said no, and he asked why not? I said because i was picking up a bunny head with a shovel. THEN he asked why I didn’t get the mail while I was out there, I said because I was carrying a shovel….. FULL OF BUNNY HEAD!!!!!

Those who don’t know us well will think this whole story is highly inappropriate, but we laughed SO hard! I needed to record the memory, because I know I will have forgotten it by next week. Yes, we are inappropriate. I just laughed all over again.

Have a good day and I will try and straighten up.

You and your husband sound a lot like me and my husband. We’re constantly throwing zingers at each other! Makes life more fun, don’t you think? 🙂

Thank you for sharing #1. My mouth felt as though it was glued shut for the last two days and now I am so thankful that I did not spew the ugly and hurtful words that had been spinning around in my head. My mind now feels clearer and my heart lighter. Gods timing and location of his message is always perfect. Praise God and thank you Kel for having a heart that listens to him.

Build me up, Buttercup: It’s just one of those songs you have to sing along to, isn’t it?

Restoration is a good word- agreed! We often have ‘murder victims’ around our yard too. I am strictly the informant, and hubs has to do the disposing.shudder!

Him asking what were you waiting for, someone to runover it? I could hear his voice in my head, made me LAUGH!!!!! You guys are so funny. I love your stories. If I could pick up a dead rat, I could pick up a bunny head — BUT I was not so good at holding the bag so Gary could put the rotting hedgehog in it– that died under our deck, I threw THAT bag down and ran!!!!!
